Harvard academic agrees with the Pope that higher condom availability increases the prevalence of HIV.

Very dubious. I want way more information before I will believe this load. Especially in light of Australia's successful anti aids campaigns.

"Lies, damn lies, and statistics" would appear to cover that.
Since condom usage is spectacularly low among the uneducated it's rather drawing a long bow to claim they're ineffective, or worse.
They are merely one part of the overall strategy, it works in other places, it would seem to fail in Africa and Asia only because of the low education rate among the general population.

They said that about the pill as well -
until they found out that the uneducated
were using the pill as 'suppositories.'

So, I guess as far as condoms go - it
depends on what appendage you wear them.
On your nose ... - of course they won't work!

Wasting your time TRUTHNOW. The lefties have only ever accepted research that confirms their dogmas and allows them to live guilt free lives no matter how perverse. With more education and sex propaganda being shoved down kids throats then previously we have more disease and unwanted pregnancies than ever before. The simple fact is that those who can't control their urges want to make it sound impossible for a man and a woman to be faithful to each other for life. They know this is the most healthy thing for themselves and kids but want to indulge and use and be used for sexual gratification. More education is the mantra from those who have no self control and are bound by lust. A little teaching on self control would save a huge number of people from a huge amount of heartache as shown by your article.

The article TRUTHNOW78 links to contains "god" in the title, so I was hardly surprised by the highly selective quoting to follow.

If you read Green's full comments you'll notice, for instance, "that only 4.4 percent of the population reported consistent usage in the previous year, a rate that is probably typical of much of Africa."

People aren't using condoms, therefore condoms don't work?

You'll probably notice that neither Australia nor Europe is suffering an AIDS pandemic, despite our heathen secular ways. That's because of condoms.

Back to the drawing board, my fundamentalist friends. This one's a red herring.
