The US Government is moving to tighten financial regulations by asking Congress for the power to seize and, if necessary, close big non-bank institutions whose collapse could potentially devastate the US economy. (ABC news) why not selected major corps in the same situation too?

Dear examinator,

For those that want to read more on this
topic the following website's useful:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/03/25/2525389.htm

US Govt seeks new financial regulatory powers...

Should we do this here?

You know we will. Whatever the US does, we follow suit,
sooner or later. And our PM is over there at present -
so I'd say its a given.

In any case - it is a good idea. As well as including
"troubled insurance companies, investment firms and
hedge funds..." as is being suggested in the US.

The AIG bonus payment fiasco - is till a sore point -
we want to prevent it from happening here.

On a lighter note - when I read your heading for this
thread - "Should we do this here?" It actually made me
laugh, because it brought to mind a totally different
scenario. I had just finished replying to Yabby about
his obsession with sex...

Sorry Foxy, but you are confused once again.
I have no obsession with sex at all, but I have
no hangups either in discussing it.

We seem to differ, when Foxy discusses something,
it seems to relate to Foxy's little world, I see
the big picture, far beyond me.

One fact is clear, it took a woman like Bettina
Arndt to highlight a problem which is clearly
bothering many Australian males, but many are
uncomfortable discussing. Yup, that could be
a male flaw, some are just not very good at
expressing their emotions or problems in their
personal lives.

Now if you have any interest at all in why
Australian marriages fail or work out, then
the topic would interest you. When you bonk
your partner, has nothing to do with it.
There is a world beyond Foxy and her little world.

Dear Yabby,

I didn't mean to offend you.

I understand what you're trying to say,
and I'm sorry if I didn't express it well.

Of course I can't speak on behalf on
anyone else. I can speak on behalf of
myself and my individual experience.

Have a nice day.

Where are your view on the topic at hand?

I have been professionally trained
to present both sides of an argument
and to look at every issue from both
sides. That was one of the reasons
why I objected to Bettina Arndt's
latest book - she presented a rather
limited narrow version - not the
whole picture.

Obviously, you don't agree with me.
Which is fair enough. It's interesting
though Yabby, you accuse me of living
in my "little" world. Yet I'm trying
to see things from your point of view.
You're the one who's not even
listening to what I'm trying to say...

But then - I'm the one who's being
narrow-minded according to you -
aren't I?

We don't have to agree on everything
you know. Simply try to understand
where the other one is coming from.
And, I fully understand where you're
coming from.
