The Saint Hotel in St Kilda is hosting a No Undie Sundie event this weekend, promising a $50 drink card if women hang their knickers over the bar. (I'm sure there will be many women wearing multiple pairs of undies, or carrying them in their hand bags.)

And if women flash their bras or underwear at bar staff, they'll also get a free drink.

Melbourne Centre Against Sexual Assault spokeswoman Carolyn Worth said...

"It's almost an invitation to sexual assault."

So she is saying that women's behaviour can actually increase the likelihood of sexual assault. Who would have though that?

I definately don't agree, and I think it's a terrible thing for someone in her position to suggest a women who chooses to flash her bra (showing less than can be seen on the beach) or hang a pair of undies on a bar is asking for it. Funny how the people that are there to defend sexual assault are making the same statements as those who commit the crime.

This is to say nothing of the assumption that men are all so unable to control themselves that the thought of a woman wearing no undies will induce them to rape.

Regardless of the trashiness of the promotion, nobody is being forced to do anything. Nobody is even forced to turn up!

In this world of political correctness, we treat people like children, and we get children. In this case, women are assumed to be incaple of rejecting a $50 bribe to flash their bra when they don't want to, and men are assumed incapable of treating the women who do expose their bra with respect.

And we critisize Sheiks for their uncovered meat statements!

Usual Suspect

Agree with your points entirely.

At least I know which bar to avoid - the kind of people (male & female) not exactly my type of people.

My only complaint is that this promo for the pub furthers the 'idea' for the completely clueless, that women are just about sex and nothing else.

Cheers

US thanks for the heads up.. I might go have alook, watch the passing parade..

I remember back 10 years ago or so trying to find anywhere in Melbourne where you could watch women mud wrestling, my 'girlfriend' (at the time) and I went everywhere we could think of from the crazy hrose (as it was then in Russell St) all along King St and the closest we got was baby-oil at what is now called the Spearmint Rhino.

Oh fractelle

disagree, they are also useful for fetching a cold beer from the fridge (after the sex of course).

Fractelle,

I agree that men should also have the opportunity to get free drinks, and this represents discrimination. But why do people think that to encourage women to be sexual is a statement that women are ALL about sex. I think women are about sex, and lots of other things. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing.

Women don't always have to be encouraged to take off their clothes or be cheeky either. Tom Jones is constantly ducking underwear, and there is no moral outrage. Nobody thinks he might be tempted to rape.

If anything the promotion says Men are about sex, and not women. It's the women who need to be encouraged to be cheeky. If the pub offered $50 for men to flash their undies the place would go broke.

What a quaint idea...

A pub offering a promotion for women
to hang their underwear at the bar.

I guess Sophia Loren was right:

"Sex appeal is fifty per cent what you've got
and fifty percent what people think you've got!"

Boys will be boys and so will a lot of
middle-aged men.
