We are soon to holiday at Uluwatu in Bali, has anyone got any advice regarding where to eat, safe surfing beaches, scuba diving and how to travel around the area once you are there?

The best way to get around would be to hire one of the many scooters - incredibly cheap and give you the freedom to explore on your own.

Best advice for surfing spots? Well get onto one of the surfing websites which, because Bali is so popular, have lots of info that is topical. I would also wait till you get there and talk to people in bars, around the various beaches etc. - or anyone with a board. Bali is full of tourists and dedicated surfers and, like people abroad anywhere, everyone always ready to share.

Not knowing your budget or life-style the where to eat question is pretty open..theres certainly no shortage of places and trial and error probably the best. However, local food is incredibly cheap and plentiful. The added bonus is that the locals naturally have the best info.

Have you got onto Lonely Planet? Whenever I'm going anywhere new that's usually my first stop - especially the Thorn Tree Forum. You get all sorts of different tips and when posting questions people are only too happy to help.
