As a former anthropologist, I love these 'lost tribe' beat-ups that appear regularly in the media. While there may have been no official documentation of the subject group, there is no way that they would be unaware of aspects of the modern world. They're not "lost", they're at home, and they appear to be lucky enough to have avoided for the time being the joys of capitalism, the state and missionaries. And clearly they do so by choice - otherwise they'd simply walk out of their valley to the nearest township, of which they would ubdoubtedly be aware.
Funai's obviously doing a good job. Posted by CJ Morgan, Friday, 30 May 2008 7:32:31 PM

CJ This topic came up on Saturday when I was talking with some people and too my surprise everybody except me thought that they should not be contacted and just left to fend for themselves!
You might find CJ that they don’t go to the nearest township out of fear or not knowing what to expect. Most people in Africa would know of the West but know nothing about it. I have to ask you whats the difference between leaving these people to face the world on their own and feeding millions of people in Africa who are in the middle of a drought or immunizing people from preventable diseases? Should the Africans be left to fend for themselves? Posted by EasyTimes, Monday, 2 June 2008 12:41:07 AM

“Funai does not make contact with the Indians and prevents invasions of their land, to ensure "total autonomy" for the isolated tribes, the foundation said.” This was a comment made in an artile about a recently discovered tribe in the amazon which has no contat with the outside world. They seem to have no intention to contact them. Why? If one of the members of the tribe is sick or suffering from something very basic such as a broken leg isnit it morally wrong not to try and help them if we have the know how?
