Advertisements Distracting From Reading Articles

I'm not sure if this is actually a 'technical' issue, but I'll raise it here anyhow :)

Earlier tonight I was reading an OLO article which was particularly dense, well-written and complex. However, I found that I was quite distracted from it by the large advertisement, replete with highly successful video graphics, that appeared in the middle of the first page. I had to right-click on the ad and turn off the animation in order to read the article.

While I'm fully aware that OLO needs advertising revenue in order to exist, surely advertising that severely curtails the 'readability' of the articles is counterproductive?

Yes, I know that I can increase the text size relative to the adverts, but that doesn't help all that much.

Not sure that OLO can do much about this if they are to remain viable, but hopefully this consumer feedback might point to a problem in product delivery :)

P.S. Thanks to Dewi et al on the server/database problem

Thanks CJ ,
I now know how to stop the "flicker".

Definitely the animated ads in the middle of the page are a bit annoying .

Hi, CJ
We are using some kind of Ad Blocking and Pop-up Window Blocking software that eliminates advertisements.
All I see, instead of the ad, is the word "Advertisement".
Not sure which one I have- probably Norton.

Dear CJ,

They are annoying, I must admit.

However, it's gotten to the stage now - where I don't bother
paying any attention to them - just scroll past as quickly
as possible.
