Advertisements Distracting From Reading Articles

Earlier tonight I was reading an OLO article which was particularly dense, well-written and complex. However, I found that I was quite distracted from it by the large advertisement, replete with highly successful video graphics, that appeared in the middle of the first page. I had to right-click on the ad and turn off the animation in order to read the article.
While I'm fully aware that OLO needs advertising revenue in order to exist, surely advertising that severely curtails the 'readability' of the articles is counterproductive?
Yes, I know that I can increase the text size relative to the adverts, but that doesn't help all that much.
Not sure that OLO can do much about this if they are to remain viable, but hopefully this consumer feedback might point to a problem in product delivery :)
