No, I haven't suddenly cracked nor just been released from Larundel.

Some of you might recall, that perhaps a year ago I warned of a false religion emerging from the Philippines, and mentioned a "Pastor" Apollo Quiboloy who claims to be the "Appointed Son of God".

This movement appears to be growing remarkably, and extending it's (his) tenticles world wide. The tragic thing is, it shows how so many young and naive people can be hijacked into something which is 'big' 'popular' and 'dynamic' with little regard for truth.

Please check out this web site, and see the vids, but more importantly, note the 'words' used by this false teacher, about himself.

There is a Christian song we often sing "Its all about you Lord"..

But this bloke has it different "It's all about me" (him)

DANGER SIGNS "Spiritual and FINANCIAL revolution"

This is prosperity gospel on turbo, steroids and rocket boost. Most of all, it is megalomania.

This will have a very BAD end.. for sure.

awww... the real title for this thread was.. deliberately:

"YOU CAN BELIEVE IT, I AM THE SON OF GOD" which then makes the first line of the opening post make some sense.

Of course.. I'm not saying "I" am the Son of God, but the bloke in the video is.. and he means it!

This bloke would be a joke if he did not appear to be capturing a strong element of Philippines nationalism, if President Aroyo did not come and seek his council, if masses of people .. (look at the images) did not flock to his meetings, if people who comment quite seriously in the comments section about how they believe this man IS... really.. the Son of God.

SCAM... the old tried and true scam is at work here.
http://www.kingdomofjesuschrist.org/2/kd/FinancialRevolution.html

1/ Present this fantasic money making scheme..show how it works, and use many personal tesimonies for it having worked for people...
Glamorize and Glorify and Glitz up the program.. make sure you repeatedly emphasize how MUCH 'you' are going make out of this...

-DEBT free lives.
-Miracle power to gain wealth.
-Enough is not enough.
-More than 'enough' for you.

2/ Then.. as a kind of afterthought, add the 'PRICE' of the program.
Found in the beginning of the 'More than enough for you' paragraph:

<<What is the key to unlocking all these blessings into our lives? The key is unconditional, sincere and wholehearted giving.>>

*ouch*... I certainly did not see 'that' coming.... duh.

BOAZ_David,

According to the Dead Sea Scrolls the term "Son of God" can apply to those showing Righteous [towards people] and Piousness [towards God]. It was a more general term than used by church scholars. Not a title exclusive to Jesus.

Regarding donations first century state documents 2/3 of tithes raised by the churches must go to the poor [Barbara Theiring]. More to do with breaking down economic distinctions than camels physically going the eye of a needle. Relatedly, people who were baptised were charged half a shekel for church membership in the first century Jewish Diaspora. The money went to build palaces for Herod.

Cheers,

O.

Welcome back Oliver.. I think you misunderstood the reason I posted this thread.

THIS MAN IS DANGEROUS.. as Jesus said "Many will come IN MY NAME and say "I am he".. do not follow them"

Like I said... he actually claims the following:

1/ He is THE Son of God....
2/ He has been given ALL Authority and power and wealth on earth.
3/ Davao city is the New Jerusalem.

Also..as I said.. if he was some backwoods clown.. he would just be a joke....but he is gathering momentum of a "presidential" kind.

It grieves me that so many people are willing to be sucked in by such blatant 'pandering' to human greed and desire for wealth when the Word of God so abundantly clear that we are to ask for our 'daily' bread..not our bread for a lifetime now....

cheers

Boaz

If this man does claim to be The Son of God as opposed to a son of God it is blasphemy. If God has given him great wealth he then has great responsibility as a steward to use it for God's kingdom not his own (like Joseph). To whom much is given much is expected. If he claims Davao city is the New Jerusalem then he is a fruitcake.

Runner.. it's neccessary to listen very closely and read what this bloke says about himself to appreciate why my level of concern is as high as it is..blessings bro.

Not quite JPW... we don't make wild claims to virtual divinity like this bloke..

Nor do we claim all 'wealth' on earth...

I do hope you all take the short time to view the links.. and see just how easy it is for a religion to get a foothold... and the nature of the attraction.. and how passionate its followers can become.. all on the basis of a falsehood, a lie.. a deception, and most of all, a DELUSION. (Quiboloy's)

It's possible that those who don't know Christ yet may not see exactly what we see here.. but I'm very willing to explain carefully about it, because I would hate to think that one of you, or your family became sucked into this kind of scam.

By the looks of it, "youtube" is the new god. All I see is masses of people with the feeling of hopeless and overpopulation is fueling it.
Son of god! What crock!

If one needs god in their lives, so be it, but I do agree that there's only room for one.

I can do what this clown is doing.

Behold my children! I am the son of the earth! (THE OF LORD EVOLUTION) which the father made, which Jesus has the soap box.

Do you know what, if I get enough sheep people together, I might just pull it off. OLO

But seriously, I know its just another con job, just like all religions are, and its all about, money!money!money.

I still believe that religion has been designed to destroy man kind, not save it.

Yet another discussion thread from Boazy rabbiting on about someone or something to be frightened of.

Well, that's freedom of speech - the freedom to make a complete idiot of yourself.

Boazy, just as I don't lose sleep over Muslims, I won't be losing any over this latest scare of yours.

You ever hear the one about the boy who cried wolf too many times?

Boaz,
Recently while travelling on a train in Sydney I noticed a Philipino woman pull out a set of cards containing a photo and ask another Philipino Woman if she had heard of .......? Then she proceeded to tell the stranger about this man who enters heaven each year and receives messages directly from God. I must say I was disturbed at such nonsense and felt like I should warn the stranger who was siting in the seat in front of me that this claim is based in lies and deception, but it was not my conversation.

Boaz,

The concept of The Son of God refers to the Righteous [to Man] and the Pious [to God] (Barbara Thering). The Apocalyptic texts of Revelation and Daniel are highly symbolic and relate to Jesus' [House of David] mission to establish an eternal Kingdom of Heaven, presumably under Davanic rule over all nations. Herod's crew were Ideamaens, Arab, not Jewish. Jesus [son of Joseph, son Heli] was very much of the House of David. [I don't believe in the churches' ship on Mary's virgin, suspecting she fell prenant to Joseph, when engaged.]

In the first century CE, as mentioned in another thread, 2/3 [two days work] of tithes were to be devoted to the poor, very much against the idea of God creating wealth for his followers.

Philo,

The idea of God communicating directly with humans is different to the Greek concept of epiphany, were generally gods --with some exceptions-- stayed aloof in Olympus. Perhaps the Romans might liken Christian angels to Hermes?

Moses and Mohammed may have needed to make claim direct communication to meld religion with group unity. Moses needed to stop the Hebrews straying away from a Yehwah [war/tribal god]to agricultural gods [e.g., calf] when the People settled. Mohammed needed to unite the Arabs against the Perians and Christianity.

I agree with you and be concerned with anyone claiming to communicate with God, Christian or otherwise.

Fractelle.. I'm not on a 'scare campaign'..I'm on an 'information' campaign.

This dill Aquiboloy is just one of a number of dangerous cults around.

The similarity between his claimed experience and that of Mohammad (along with Joseph Smith) is stark.

EVOLUTION makes a good point, but he misses one also. YES..this Cult IS about making money and having power... but no, not 'ALL' religions are like that and Christ-ianity is DEFinitely not about that. This bloke is not preaching Christ, he is preaching himSELF.. as all heretics ultimately have done.

Philo has pointed us to the fact that this man is influencing Philipino people in Australia, and that concerns me.

EVOLUTION..the ONE major distinguishing feature of false messiahs and false religions is the one you alluded to.'

IT'S ABOUT MONEY/POWER (clear already in the case of Aquiboloy)
and/or
IT'S ABOUT SEX. (yet to be known/seen/revealed....but watch)

You can know the truth or falsehood by those indicators generally.
Buddha is an exception.. but instead of finding the truth, he came up with a bit of dodgy psychology and some 'warm fuzzy' words....then died. At least he was not in it for the money, but then, Buddhism is not actually a religion.

EVO..I challenge you to find 'its about the money' in the writings of Jesus, Paul, or any of the new testament writers. Come back when you find the relevant verses ok ? :)

For those of us who don't have our intellects paralysed by religious belief, this guy and his disciples look like just another Christian cult, with some obvious similarities to others like Hillsong, Exclusive Brethren and all the other financially oriented happyclapper sects.

Of course, I've been saying for some time that we need to watch out for these religious cults, if not as hysterically as Boazy. Unlike Boazy, I think that these sects are at least as problematic for society as are the equivalently deranged fringe groups that derive from Islam.

The problem is that they all attract credulous adherents who need to believe in something, and can be easily brainwashed into handing over their money or worse in order to score brownie points in whatever ideology it is to which they are captive.

Like Fractelle, I won't be losing any sleep over this particular variant, any more than I would over any other of Boazy's 'Henny Penny' scare campaigns. Further, I have to comment on the irony of a thread started by Boazy of all people, with the title "You can believe it".

Truly a P.T. Barnum moment.

Right there with you, particularly on the doubly ironic title for this thread.

That Boaz can't/won't see he is as brainwashed about his own version of christianity as the followers of any religious cult, is more sad than it is funny.

Again Boaz demonstrates the innate "control by fear" that underscores most religions.

I veer from feeling sorry for him on threads like this and angered by him where he vilifies and defames other people. If he serves any purpose at all, it is to beware of the dangers of religious addiction.

CJ, you missed one obvious contender.

>>just another Christian cult, with some obvious similarities to others like Hillsong, Exclusive Brethren and all the other financially oriented happyclapper sects<<.

The Roman Catholic cult has kept its adherents barefoot and pregnant for centuries, while dining off golden platters themselves.

The differences in process are salutary.

The censer-waving, beringed priests of Rome keep their congregation in fear of the unknown, and take their money to help them feel better about death.

The happy-clappies are by and large smarter, or at least more in tune with an age where people are prone to be more resistant to fear, but respond to "feel-good" donations instead.

You latest Youtube contribution has me puzzled, Boaz.

In your view, are these people a) better b) worse c) exactly the same as any other Christian cult?

Ginx. That was just brilliant, I still haven't stopped laughing.lol

Daivd. Please stop! Your wondering around here with a big red target
on your back. You know Dawkins is right! We atheists do have a higher IQ.

Let doctor evolution guide you to the nearest medical facility and just sit down and have a chat with someone.
For the record, I told you about the young boy, who's father was a travelling evangelist and the same faith that you believe in, eventally drove him insane. When doctors found him, he was talking to himself and quoting the bible constantly and when asked a question, he would just look for a brief moment at the staff and he would go back into his trance with a constant rocking motion.

Daivd! Please be carefull.
