Can anyone enlighten us what exactly does the law reform commission do all day. This outfit is conspicuous by it's absence in the media. Daily, we hear on TV of utterly incomprehensibly silly laws which prevent other authorities from acting on various issues because it's "The Law". What kind of people make up this law reform commission ? Who are they ? Is this commission full time or part time ? Are these people in touch with the reality of daily life ? Judging by many posts here there is a lot of discontent within the community regarding Law. What is the big hurdle that prevents this commission from changing poor legislation. Any examples of recent Law reform ?

why should the law have any relation to reality?

the constitution itself is a joke, how can other law make much sense? it's all done in-house, by the ruling class, of which you are not a member. as joh b-p used to say, "don't you worry about that."

as there was some talk about democracy, i was amazed to hear him dismiss the interest of the electorate as misplaced. but he was right- you are chooks.

A very interesting question

At least we knew under Howard what it was used for and their Howard commissioned Inquiry into the Privacy Act is still hanging there.

Howard's aim was to repeal s 98 allowing anybody to seek an injunction for the most minor privacy breaches, thus dynamite against such as the Child Support Agency who see priv invasion as their "day job".

So what will Kevin 07 do with it, given that he would now have to foot the bill for Howard's sins

but in reality he is rather safe because of the Hitler Rule

"It is a great fortune for governments that the people do not think".
Divorce doctor,
It's a great fortune for governments that the education system provides teachers who pass on their expertise of not thinking about others or not knowing anything to the most impressionable, the young. There is no integrity in anything that's to do with integrity. For those bureaucrats there's only one goal. Superannuation ! That's why I want to gauge the attitude of OLOers'.
i find it rather disturbing that some frivolous topic can attract a 100 or more posts, whilst the serious only attracts a few. Law reform is one of the most important aspects in society & yet only few consider it worthwhile to put forward recommendations.. what needs to be changed. For one, I'd recommend to lower the age of juvenile responsibility to 12. These youngsters are way ahead of a 14 year old from 25 years ago, they know what they're doing. Let's do away with this under-age nonsense & get the show back on track.
