ever wonder why dubya is not in jail?

when you stop and think about it, clinton was impeached for lieing about his (not quite) sex life, while dubya has thus far been unscathed for wood-chipping the constitution, not to mention authorizing murder and torture.

"why is it so?"

because the united states federal government is like oz, if the 'opposition' party adopts a bi-partisan policy, there is no effective person to complain about shredding the constitution, etc.

here's a link to greenwald's 'salon' post on democrat complicity. anyone who relies on parliament to pursue justice should really, really have a re-think.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/12/09/democrats/index.html

this is the sort of thing that makes citizen initiative vital to any society that wishes to survive as a civilized and humane place to live.

Good grief Demos... you only speak about what you 'hear/read' and just like me, you don't have a jolly clue about what the full picture is on many things, you don't have a clue about the level of security risk these people face..

and yet.. on the basis of pure speculation and innuendo, always from politically vested interest sources.. you ask why Bush is not in Jail ?

Get real mate..this is the worst, shabbiest discussion you have ever started/contributed to... it wreaks of naivity and sour grapes.

The reality is, without the power and influence of the USA *warts and all* we would be a non entity, swallowed up and consumed by any number of virulent greedy nations much bigger than us....

If you have a problem with Mr Bush, then find out TRUE evidence (as IF you have the clout or contacts to do that) and then... have a good old rant.

I am still shaking my head in disbelief over how Bob Woodward can speak of the 'There were no WMD' mantra as IFFFFFF it were an absolute accepted fact..when that little slogun goes contrary to the personal testimony of George Sada

http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewSpecialReports.asp?Page=%5CSpecialReports%5Carchive%5C200602%5CSPE20060202a.html

<<Sada contends that Saddam took advantage of a June 4, 2002, irrigation dam collapse in Zeyzoun, Syria, to ship the weapons under cover of an aid project to the flooded region.

"[Saddam] said 'Okay, Iraq is going to do an air bridge to help Syria," Sada recounted. Two commercial jets, a 747 and 727, were converted to cargo jets, in order to carry raw materials and equipment related to WMD projects, Sada said. The passenger seats, galleys, toilets and storage compartments were removed and new flooring was installed, he claimed. Hundreds of tons of chemicals were reportedly included in the cargo shipments. [See Video]

"They used to do two sorties a day," said Sada. "Fifty-six sorties were done between Baghdad and Damascus.">>

Now...you canNOT get closer to the facts than this.. the MAN who flew them... all else is pure speculation and grabbing bubbles from the air.
Puh-lease stop babbling and start believing :)

Dear Demos,

How can a man who is convinced that God wanted him to be President be put in jail?

Besides with Texas Oil money behind him who would dare?

But don't worry his term of office is coming to an end. His successor has to be an improvement - certainly in the intelligence stakes.

DEMOS,

I too am dismayed at the blatant erosion of democracy we've witnessed in America at the hands of the Bush administration. The Patriot Act and the serious question marks hanging over the 2000 and 2004 elections are enough to send shivers down spine of anyone living in the Western world.

Let's hope Australia can learn some lessons from America's dwindling democracy and save what little we have left before we get to that extent. The fall of the Howard Government was a good start, although they were well on their way to stuffing things up with some of the the anti-terror laws. Thank goodness we don't have an electronic voting system – yet.

BOAZ_David,

In regards to your link, I remember Pericles pointing out to you not so long ago how old it is and that there would have been more developments since then, had there been any credit to Sada's claims considering what they would have meant.

In fact, I went searching through all your posts at http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/user.asp?id=1368&show=history for terms such as “WMD”, “Sada”, etc. in an attempt to find the last time you brought this up, along with the response from Pericles; and although I didn't find it, I was amazed to see how many times you have had it pointed out to you just how sketchy and questionable Sada's claims are. Yet here you are again, pointing it out as if it were the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So I won't even bother repeating what everyone has already explained to you about this.

So, Saddam's WMD are OK in Syria, but just not Iraq hey? If the US government was serious about international security, then they would never let it go considering what a threat they would have posed. Perhaps they did investigate the claims and found them to be false? Or could it be that the war in Iraq has very little to do with international security and peace in the middle-east..?

I'd say “you be the judge of that”, but that's not looking like it would be a very good idea so far.

<<and yet.. on the basis of pure speculation...>>

Pot, kettle, black.

<<Get real mate..this is the worst, shabbiest discussion you have ever started/contributed to... it wreaks of naivity and sour grapes.>>

Again, Pot, kettle, black.

<<Now...you canNOT get closer to the facts than this.. >>

Err... yes you can. Why do you think they don't accept hearsay in a court of law? It seems we're very selective with what we consider 'facts', aren't we David?

<<“Puh-lease stop babbling...>>

And once more for good luck... Pot, kettle, black.

.<<..and start believing :)>>

Um... In what?

I reckon dubya's not in jail because he's got shares in them.

Thanks for the laugh, Boazy. Thanks also to AJ Philips, who has articulated my response very well :)

What I would really like to know is what Boazy puts on his Weet Bix.

C'mon BOAZY,

When in comes down to specifics, Sada actually witnessed nothing. All his "revelations" come from the unproven statements of other people. If there was the chance of any real legitimacy to this it would have been trumpeted from the battlements. Even Cheney wasn't prepared to grasp this last straw.

According to a friend in California, Bush recently banned tee-shirts that may promote or incite terrorism and is still working on the concept of criminalising "thought-crimes".

I saw Crosby, Stills and Nash in concert in Newcastle last night and Crosby referred to "that chimpanzee in the Whitehouse" and said "how strange it is to be an American these days."

There are constant calls for Dubya's impeachment in the US and Haliburton probably owns most of the gaols anyway. While their political system is so corrupt it's only the private media that has the power to change things and they aren't quite ready to let that happen yet.

DEMOS, people (ie the Democrats) who live in glass houses have learned not to throw stones: or at least, have learned to shank their throw so as not to get too close to their target.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Rudd and co. pursue anybody significant in the AWB episode.
