Rizz, the impression I gained from comments made by Hetty during a television interview several years ago was that she supports innocent men going to jail if that can help reduce the rate of child sexual abuse.
At the same time she seems to stay remarkably quite about the vast majority of substantiated child abuse. In Queensland (and I think nationally) child sexual abuse makes up 6% of all substantiated abuse and neglect. Those who ignore other forms of abuse (possibly just as damaging) are ignoring 94% of substantiated abuse and neglect of children. (http://www.abusedchildtrust.com.au/facts.htm#2) It may be that child sexual abuse is under reported but the same argument would apply to other forms of abuse and neglect as well. The misrepresentation of this issue may well be contributing to placing kids further into harms way. Kids in single parent households are dramatically over represented in substantaited abuse and neglect cases. It seems reasonable to believe that kids who have a strong involvement with both parents are more likely to have someone to turn to is one parent (or their partner) is abusing them. Rizz, I think Hetty J. is a caring and strong woman..the fact she put her child up for adoption makes difference in my book, because it is a personal matter and not up for public discussion, or shouldnt be at least.Yes lots of pple adopt theyre children..your right but unfortunately when one becomes a public figure their personal business becomes public record.
I think shes a champion for abused children and should be a lot more like her. Posted by taurus29, Tuesday, 10 October 2006 8:21:32 PM

taurun29, "the fact she put her child up for adoption makes difference in my book" - I suspect that you intended to put a "no" just before difference. If so I agree, it's not the publics business unless it is relevant to the issues she campaigns on publicly.
