Nothing wrong with celebrating, but the accompanying sentiment can be a problem. I remember as a primary schooler being at a face painting day and asking for black and white minstrel and being refused. Not a budding far right extremist to be weeded out and rededicated, just a kid who liked The Goodies.

The way the GDR treated it's children was probably worse than the way it treated it's adults.
