Many schools and child care centres are now bringing in "Happy Parents Day" or "Happy Family Day" particularly as we see a rise in same sex parents or people who have had a child alone via a surrogate mother across Australia and elsewhere.

Also, where a child may have lost a parent and a school/child care centre feels Father's Day and Mother's Day are no longer appropriate or acceptable.

I do feel if we move to a lifeless celebration of people and don't recognise people for who they are we will face problems, living a soul less generic way of life.

If you are a child and you have lost a parent, you also need to be able to talk about the issue, not just have it pushed away, or have other people avoid talking about the matter with you say at school.

Protecting Mother's Day and Father's Day is important for me and for those who don't have a mother or father, we can accommodate, but we shouldn't erase or cut out mothers and fathers and celebrating them.

I say this with Father's Day coming up and the many people who celebrate Father's Day and Mother's Day each year.

Fortunately, the vast majority of Australians live their personal lives without interference from government and perverts. Being inclusive is what its all about, the wife and I have been privileged to be invited to our moko's (like grandchildren in Maori culture) primary school for Grandparents Day last time we were in NZ. Thoroughly enjoyable watching the children perform on stage, listening to speeches from the School Captains and the Principle and her staff about "what's on at school" from sports to cultural activities, its a very active school. Then visiting the kids in their classrooms to see what its like, and what they do, meet their teachers, other "grandparents" and the children's friends. Seeing a school like this I am confident our kids are in the good hands of dedicated educators, and a bright future is their's.

Nothing wrong with celebrating, but the accompanying sentiment can be a problem. I remember as a primary schooler being at a face painting day and asking for black and white minstrel and being refused. Not a budding far right extremist to be weeded out and rededicated, just a kid who liked The Goodies.
