Melbourne writer, Travis Kelly, describes multiculturalism as a “crisis of self”. Australia is a country without convictions, and multiculturalism is filling the void, with foreign cultures being placed on the same level as its own, irrespective of how repugnant they are.

Multiculturalism is a weakness of our political class, which “requires” the rest of us to compromise our freedom of speech in favour of avoiding “Islamic sensibilities”, perhaps one of the reasons the current government is hesitant to confront the growing antisemitism in Australia?

There is a “desperate need” not to offend other cultures - in our own country. Except for Judaism and our own Jewish community?

Will we really follow Europe, and allow ourselves to be weakened “in the face of diversity pressures? It looks as though we might be on the way to that, under the uniparty.

Particularly under the Albanese regime we seem to be sacrificing our own values to accommodate others.

As Travis Kelly rightly says, immigrants with foreign cultures should be wary of offending the host culture, not the other way around.

Do we want to become like some countries whose cultures have been so watered down we won't remember our culture?

It seems to me that the number of people having to ask ‘what is Australian culture’ every time this subject comes up indicates that we have already reached that low point.

Australia has never been a ‘mono-culture’. I remember when you were judged (and often harshly judged) by whether you drove a Holden or a Falcon, whether you were a Catholic or a Church of England, whether you followed rugby league or ‘aerial ping pong’, whether you were an unmarried single female over 25, whether you were Indigenous or a white fella. All very ‘mono’ and accepting of difference … Not!

Personally, I welcome and celebrate the Australia of today. No longer bound to boring meat and over cooked 3 veg for evening meals, I am free to explore the extraordinary culinary world right outside my front door. I can now easily observe (and sometimes participate in) the wisdom, the traditions, the costumes, the vibrant life of peoples from places I have never visited, or even likely to visit. How fortunate am I to be living in this country right now.

Thank your god, or kama or whatever, that some politicians had the foresight to end that shameful white Australia policy.

Like many people you have an immature and superficial view of multiculturalism. It's not about what you eat, drive or wear. I suppose it's nice to have different choices of trivia if you are really that bored. It causes no problems. And it's about ethnicity, not culture.

Culture is not about race or colour, or cooking; it's about belief and behaviour. It should be as obvious as the nose on your face that there are enormous differences between the Anglo/Saxon/Celtic culture on which Australia was built and some of the cultures dumped on us without our permission.

And some, not all, of those cultures are deadly to Australia and the West in general. You don't get it, and you probably won't until it is too late. At my age, it is highly unlikely that I will be around to say ‘told you so’. Good luck.

Oh dear ttbn, you have overlooked an important piece of my post. In addition to all the ‘trivial’ (as you call it) aspects of multiculturalism, I included traditions and wisdom of other cultures. I wholeheartedly embrace some of the wisdoms and teachings from other cultures – how the Hindu tradition sees God in all things, the Buddhist teachings of non-violence, our own Indigenous people’s respect for country.

As obvious as the nose on my face, there are actions and beliefs I reject completely – i.e. the rejection of my lifestyle by some. I see that today from both hard-core western sects of the Judeo-Christian tradition as well as from Middle Eastern cultures. I see hard-core western zealots endorse a world leader who is a proven rapist and corrupt. Aspects of western culture to admire and promote? I don’t think so.

I hope that you might understand that human beings all across our tiny little planet are human beings. Some are good, some bad, some kind, some violent etc. etc. I think it is entirely dangerous to ignore Carl Sagan’s observation that western culture alone thinks it has all the answers.

This is why I embrace multi-culturalism.

If you prefer foreign cultures to your own, that's your business. I think my culture is best, and it has produced the society, the wealth and the democracy that immigrants seem to be attracted to.

Hindus see “God in all things” do they? Well, they certainly have enough godS to cover everything. There is no one God. Just lots of things they call different names.

Non-violent Buddhists? You obviously haven't been to, or read about Tibet.

But, you have your opinions, as have I. And probably the twain will never meet. I do note, however, that a majority of Australians are sick of multiculturalism, and time will sort everything out one way or the other.

I just hope that it will be sorted peacefully before we reach the violent state of affairs in other countries who started experimenting with and manipulating cultures before we did. We have already had our first taste of the downside of multiculturalism on Bondi Beach. Violence towards and hatred for Jews is increasing. Jews now are reported as feeling safer in Israel than they do in the country of their birth, Australia. They would obviously not share your enthusiasm for multiculturalism

In the short term, extended migration can be vastly unsettling.
But over a longish time, it all settles down.
We reach a kind of 'averaged out' way of life.
Then we will all be the 'same' again.
So in a thousand years time our descendants will no doubt thank us for providing such a wealth of input to our society.
However, in the short term it is a debacle.
A debacle we must learn to live with.
And simply do the best we can with it.

Yes. It's our own (the West's) fault. Can't blame the immigrants who are encouraged to come here, by the same idiot political class and urgers who actually encourage them to cling to the mores of the backward countries that they wanted to leave.

Hi Ipso Fatso,

Totally agree, what I have found is the first generation of new arrivals, find it hard to adapt, socially and culturally, the second generation find it easier, as they have greater contact with the local environment. Children of migrants, adapt extremely well, they don't have that kinship with another location. I have found migrants who come here, as skilled and educated, adapt very quickly, particularly as nearly all understand, language and the general way Australia acts. I have a very good friend who came from Turkey, many years ago now. A qualified engineers, both he and his wife, very well educated. They had the same problems many Australian confront, getting settled, buying a house, raising a family etc, they have not surprisingly been very successful in Australia, as have their children been a success.

Up until his death in 1826 John Adams would have known a world that had made very few experiments with democracy. He would have been most familiar with the French Revolution, which was a social experiment in democracy, which began reasonably well with the First Republic beginning in 1792, but with internal unrest, the First Republic was short lived and failed, and one year later the Reign of Terror began, led by radicals. In turn any semblance of democracy was finally replaced by Napoleon Bonaparte’s military dictatorship in 1799.

Indyvidual,

Australians have not lost their identities by accident. We've fallen for the Leftist rot of not defending our democratic traditions. Doing so is “racist” and exclusive according to the Leftist traitors.

Pulse and YouGov now show that 46% of Australians say multiculturalism has definitely been a failure, and that number will rise, with more that half the population uneasy about it, as arrogant politicians, advised by unelected bureaucrats, keep pushing for mass immigration to prop up the failing economy (instead of increasing productivity), to divide and conquer as social cohesion dissipates, with the madman Albanese barking about how he believes in ‘cohesion’.

Confidence that Albanese & Co know what they are doing no longer exists.

Most people are “alarmed” by the erosion of Australian identity “under the guise of diversity”. The ‘diversity is strength’ mantra from the Left loons is a contradiction that only they are capable of coming up with.

Does Australia still have a confident national culture which newcomers are expected to join? No! We've gone back to the old culture cringe. We no longer know who we are.

Many new arrivals expect us to accommodate their grievances, hatreds, and nasty habits.

The hard Left lunatic, Albanese, helps them out by barking that “Australia is no longer who we are”. What a disgraceful creature he is!

The good immigrants from the UK and Europe didn't try to rewrite our history. They got stuck in and joined us. Our politicians weren't lunatics like Albanese those days. Now, we've got him and his ilk, and the dregs of the world coming here. Plus the return of scum who broke the law to do a spot of terrorism overseas. Nice!

Some common-sense has returned to the case of the multicultural nurses and their threats to Jewish patients arrogantly made public on a video.

The video was previously disallowed, but the court has backflipped, and it can be presented as evidence.

The trial will start on the 30th. August.

Another piece of common-sense and justice comes from the Australian Federal Police who have concluded their investigation of a tiresome and hysterical complaint against comments made about Muslims by Senator Hanson.

They advise that, “her remarks did not meet the legal threshold for relevant criminal offenses under the nation's hate speech laws”.

The Lovely Pauline got away with one, “her remarks did not meet the legal threshold for relevant criminal offences under the nation's hate speech laws”. How many times has this woman been shown to be a racists and a bigot. Pauline Hanson has been found by Australian federal courts to have racially discriminated against a Muslim senator, and she has faced widespread political and public condemnation, as well as a parliamentary censure, for making sweeping anti-Muslim statements.
Hanson is supported by the Usual Suspects, the rednecked racists in Australian society.

Paul1405,
How many non-White Nations do you know of that encourage & actually practise Multiculturalism in a similar way to European Countries, the USA & Australia ?
You're always maligning Colonisation when Europeans tried to make poor countries more self sufficient which you of course invariably twist into exploitation. However, I have yet to hear you remarking on the mass colonisation of European & Western based Countries by non-whites. Is it a two Wrongs make Right for you ? Most Westerners decided to leave again when it was realised that some cultures only desire the goods of Western cultures but not the effort. So, then it is of course in your case of colonialists reaping the resources & leaving the country to go to ruin. No mention whatsoever of the short-comings of the cultures that rejected effort !
Does hypocrisy mean anything to you ? The thousands upon thousands of invaders all over the Western World from Islamic Countries are of course refugees the moment they cross into a Wester Nation. By crossing through several countries on the way I suppose you'd refer to them as mere travellers ? I'm a migrant & I have no problem with bonafide migrants however, what is going on now is not migration, it's straight-out invasion & thanks to the Irish this will be dealt with as such.

Hi Indy,

Do you believe the rubbish you post; "Europeans tried to make poor countries more self sufficient". Nonsense, of course the motivation was EXPLOITATION, not some altruistic clap trap of making poor countries more self sufficient.

"Does hypocrisy mean anything to you?" The hypocrisy is, those that created an untenable situation in the first instance, in third world countries, the colonisers, are now being colonised themselves. The saying is 'The chickens have come home to roost!" England, France, Spain, Germany etc. The European colonisers landed unannounced in other lands, took over, exploited them to the hilt, for their own benefit. Now the once colonised are now returning the favour.

"I'm a migrant & I have no problem with bonafide migrants". Of course YOU don't, as long as they fit your mantra, but YOU do have a definite problem with Non-European migrants, YOU have demonstrated that often enough, Like your pin-up Gal Pauline Hanson, YOU are prejudiced against Indians, Muslims, Chinese, African, etc coming to Australia, and YOU claim YOU are not a racist. Good luck on that one!

So, among those you accuse me of hating there are no undesirables & incompatibles ? They're all perfect ? Oh, I see, they're not White so they must be perfect ! See if you can have a word with native Fijians & fid out how they view migrants or, some surviving Moriori mates of yours ? Why, even you as a semi-professional racist but hey, you leave no doubt as to how you feel about Whites ! You know the ones who built & grow everything you feed off !
If there's a fine example of a hypocrite it's none other than you. And, yes many Whites went all over the planet to look for a better life & help the people there also. As horrifically bad Whites are & have been, they're by far not as bad to the people they colonised as the ones you support will be. Btw. show us where I said all migrants are bad ?

Hi Indy,

Not all racists are white, not all racists are haters, racists and haters come in all colours, shapes and sizes. What YOU do is stereotype and stigmatise certain groups, based on their ethnicity or religious affiliations, they are different in your eyes, so therefore inferior. YOU will accept certain people, providing they conform to your mantra, and mimic your culture, and embrace your beliefs as the only acceptable ones. That's generally how most racists act, not always hateful, sometimes very condescending, even very kind people, like the Christian missionaries of yesteryear.

Hi Indy,

I don't believe the majority of Christian missionaries of the past, were like Islamist's of today. Religion should not be used as the foundation of the political system within a secular society. Islamist's are more like some of the Christian Zealots of the past, where they believed their religion should be the governing influence within society. That's not to say a secular society should not espouse some of the good worthwhile aspects of religion.

The decline in traditional values and beliefs in Australia and the rest of the West is the main cause of low birth rates, hopelessness, and Wokeism among the native population. The culture that once produced Western Civilisation is in its death throes, and a new multicultural, morally bankrupt culture has become the dominant one, in the form of Islamism and the filth of the Third World.

Despite the jabber from Hooray Henry's and Leftist Liars, immigration has little impact on the broader net economy (close to zero) but enormously affects the national identity and social cohesion - for the very worst.

The only clear winners in immigration are the federal government and universities. All the huge costs of immigration are borne by the states and people already living here.

The elitists claim that we are bound together by multiculturalism is crap: the opposite is true.

Unfortunately, Australia is led by a liar. A liar who looks like being re-elected in two years time because of the stupidity and arrogance of the Coalition. (Anyone thinking that One Nation has any hope of forming a government is fooling himself; they can only assist the Coalition if they are allowed to by that arrogant/ignorant man Angus Taylor and his schoolboy Lefties).

You're pointing the finger at those who want to save Australia whilst defending those desiring its demise ! Are you sure you got your left & right the correct way ? Right is where the thumb is on the left when viewed from above ! The Right i.e. conservative orientated are fighting for Australia to remain under Law instead of religion that is a Law ! The Right is for equality in merit not as in DEI, the Left is exactly the opposite ! The Right is for various cultures to morph into one cohesive society whereas the Left is facilitating the tearing apart of society to create a Monoculture i.e. leading to a Caliphate.
btw. yes, Christian missionaries have caused as much harm as good and, they have learned from their ignorance whereas the aspiring rulers still stick to 800 year old barbarism kind of rules !

Off the track again. Start something new! Why is it that most posters here are too frightened to start threads, preferring to leave it to a couple of people! Boring. Pathetic. Gutless.

But, the Census is of some interest. Once again in the religious question there is no mention of Judaism. Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism yes, but no Judaism.

The unpopular word Christianity is not mentioned either. Just Catholic, Anglican, Uniting Church, Presbyterian, Greek Orthodox, Baptist.

These are just demonisations of CHRISTIANITY. So, who is behind the Census? Some very ignorant people, who have even left the domination of Church of Christ off their list, the dills! They can't even bring themselves to use 'Christianity' or 'Christ', the backbone of the country and Western civilisation.

Mind you, some people calling themselves ‘Christian’ do a lot of harm to the faith and encourage the contempt of others; one example of which is a branch of the Uniting Church (a lefty breakaway from Presbyterianism and Methodists) on the Gold Coast displaying a sign outside of the toilets saying, “Please use the toilet you are most comfortable with”.

The Uniting Church also has a “pride circle”, marries same sex characters, and is not averse to homsexual/lesbian ministers.

So, I suppose it is quite easy for non-Christians, atheists etc to be disrespectful and just plain ignorant of Christianity and what it actually means before the loony Left gets hold of it. It's similar to the denigration of Australia's history, way of life and culture becoming the “truth” to many people.

This whole multi vs monoculturism has got out of hand.
Can I be permitted to put it very straightforward;
In Islamic cultures it is permitted to kill someone who denies Allah,
or leaves the Islamic faith.
However in Australia that is the crime of murder.
Moslems in Australia that follow that belief are murderers.
That to my mind is monoculture.
Moslems can follow their culture provided it does not clash in law
or in legal custom.
This mean Sharia law is illegal in Australia.
It must not be enforced in Australia. That would be illegal.
In fact it could be an offense of advocating a crime.

YOU seem to be trapped in an ideological void where YOU believe that 3.2% of the Australian population who are Muslim, want to impose their religious law on the remaining 96.8% of the inhabitants. YOU present no evidence to substantiate such a claim. YOU have convinced yourself, based on your prejudices against Islam that this is what is happening. I believe YOU are totally ignorant of Islam, and its teaching, preferring to latch on to the rantings of extremists, who are probably just as ignorant as YOU are on the subject.

Once the numbers are high enough Australia too will experience what all other countries who allowed Muslims to gain political power via numbers are now experiencing but you know that anyway & the prediction then will be reality ! You must have cringed when you watched that video I linked in my previous post.
I am in touch with people in Europe & I know how it all plays out because I have seen it.
Any Muslim who doesn't go with the doctrine of Islam is in as much trouble as any so-called infidel from the real infidels ! Muslims coming here are not migrants, they're invaders & Australians have not only a Right to object, they have a duty ! Here's you hypocritically advocating for multiculturalism when in actual fact you're doing your utmost to introduce a dark ages monoculture ! You think you have an Allah-given Right to force your monoculture unto us, well we have a God-given Right to our monoculture !

Hi Indy,

YOU said YOU and the mob destroyed your place of origin, and it no longer exists, not since all the bombs went off.

Its daffy to say if someone makes a claim, which you don't agree with then the onus is on you to prove them wrong. No, if you make a claim, then its for you to substantiate that claim.

"You must have cringed when you watched that video I linked" No, I don't watch your Facebook reels, people spewing garbage, its a waste of my time.

"I am in touch with people in Europe", Really! Who are they, far right fascists and Nazi's?

poor old Paul1405 has nothing to argue when faced with inconvenient facts & his only way out is irrelevant ridicule, the standard Woke Left Green diversion tactic. It's clear to see the mentality of his dark ages monoculture he's helping to find traction in Australia for.
He "doesn't watch Facebook" because there's too much evidence of his agenda being desperately wrong but he watched my provided like alright otherwise he would have a different reply. Classical hypocrite !

Which was better, our so-called racist culture
Or the new culture which bans our old culture, promotes foreigners and embraces every single other culture to compete and do battle all across the nation for influence instead.

You could have pygmy cannibals from New Guinea encouraged to move to Australia just out of a 'need for diversity' and somehow 'their culture' (eating other people) would be embraced based on the principles of 'inclusivity'.

Even worse, if anyone said anything about it...
'hey, umm... eating people is wrong, you really shouldn't be doing that mate'
Then that person would be attacked (or eaten) for being bigoted and for not accommodating and embracing all other peoples cultures.

But our culture is banned, just like all the other proud western nationalist cultures of old.
We weren't perfect, but I have doubts the new is really any better than the old.

Why all this beating around the bush ? Multiculturalism is a novel ideology for well-meaning Westerners & a welcome smoke screen for the ant-white agenda i.e. Islam ! It's as simple as that. As long as Westerners keep getting more stupid by the day then the Islamisation of the West goes as planned !
Treasonous Western politicians & educators are lining their pockets whilst shafting their own people ! Hypocritical non- Westerners are just playing the effective game of deceit ! Like the old woman who picked up a shivering snake & took it it into her home to warm up but then got bitten by the snake, said to the snake; "Why did you bite me when I took you into my warm home & now I'm dying ? The snake replied "Well, you knew Iwas a snake yet you still took me in" !

Even the schoolkids are being brainwashed into all the woke
lefty nonsense. Imagine the schools are going to close and the
kids are off to demonstrate ! What the hell are the parents
doing ?
Surely they have woken up from their time in school ?
Did you see that that Islamic mayor of NYC did what he promised
and brought in cheaper supermarkets 30% under the normal ones ?
Well now you have to show your ID documents to shop there.
Local corner shops were going there to buy their stock !

Gawd, these people are stupid.
Next the suppliers will raise their charges because of the
disruption.

Immediate family members of foreign students can get visas to accompany them in Australia.

The reaction from One Nation: if you don't want to be away from your family, do an online course.

Labor and the Coalition should be embarrassed by the fact that there are 432,000 people on bridging visas in Australia, taking up accommodation and services badly needed by locals - not to mention the 70-100 thousand visa-oversayers illegally doing the same thing.

Maybe you have got rid of the "b" for bull, but you've left the "s" stuff behind.

Of all the posters on OLO, Paul1405 seems to be the one with the least integrity, the most hypocritical & most racist !
That's why he can only reply with stupid Quips instead of real answers !

Hi Indy,

"Paul1405 seems to be the one with the least integrity" Unlike YOU I don't call other posters with Aboriginal heritage, "CONCRETE JUNGLE BUNNIES" as YOU do. How do YOU measure integrity when you use racist slurs like that.

YOU still wont admit what is your country of birth, ashamed of what they did to the innocent people of Europe, hummm! I think we know what they did.

If it was not already clear then the recent incident at Australia's busiest airport Sydney, that there is an extreme shortage of skilled people in critical fields then that highlighted the problem. Australia needs air traffic controllers, along with thousands of skilled professionals in so many fields. Training school leavers, and up-skilling older people, is costly and time consuming, but necessary. The source of workers needed in the short term is being accommodated by the Skilled Migration program, which accounts for 70% of the total immigrant intake. These people are necessary to fill the gaps in areas such as healthcare, engineering, IT, trades and many others. They are not brought in to be Uber Drivers, as some fools claim!

The shortage of skills is due to the insanity of DEI ! When merit is overruled by ideology the inevitable outcome is the society we are now ! There are dedicated people who are bashing their heads against the wall in dismay because the parasitic have to keep DEI going so they can keep going !
