You're confusing two different deals.
One to buy Virginia class subs. One to buy the new SSN-AUKUS subs. I know how concerned you always are about governments spending other people's money </sarc> but the latest announcement actually reduces the cost of the purchase of the Virginia class subs. ...... "you're confusing...". Paul in a nutshell. Posted by mhaze, Monday, 1 June 2026 10:18:24 AM

I maintain that Subs are a waste of everything in this day & age. Coastal missile stations every 1000-1500k's would be cheaper, quicker to build, more effective & won't require dangerous/costly/time wasting rescue missions !
A National Service would greatly support Defence activities as the mentality of citizens would be way better than at present ! Posted by Indyvidual, Monday, 1 June 2026 11:28:54 AM

you insult used car salesman. dei has produced the most dumbed down
treacherous bureaucrats and Government imaginable. From the climate cult to those who can't understand basic biology to virtue signalling fools allowing mass and Islamic immigration destroy our nation. Posted by runner, Monday, 1 June 2026 11:41:53 AM

You can just see where this is going.
The septics will palm us off with some clapped out subs that they were going to scrap anyway. They wont bother to train our sailors, if we can get any, and they will end up as useless white elephants and morrison and trump will have screwed every one of us. Again. Struth, this isn't some new break in policy. We were going to buy two used Virginia class subs and one new one. Now we're gunna buy three used ones at a significant cost saving. These are to cover the period from the decommissioning of the Collins class to the commissioning of the new SSN-AUKUS subs.
Its a pretty good deal from Australia's point of view and pushes us further along the path to regional naval hegemony. Posted by mhaze, Monday, 1 June 2026 1:33:49 PM

Over the weekend, War Minister Dicky Marles and his US and United Kingdom counterparts announced Australia was planning to buy three SECAND-HAND Virginia-class submarines, instead of one new submarine and two second-hand ones, from the United State. He went on to say, Australia could still move to purchase a further two submarines if they were needed. MORE SECOND-HAND JUNK

Can anyone tell us what if any, advantage submarines have to offer for Australia's defence in this day & age of electronic & drone warfare ? Even the standard cannon fodder is of no use anymore and, if Labor gets in again what would be the point when so many of them are now actively aiding the underway invasion ?

Collins class subs: 20-30 years old 1996-2003 build.
The three Virginia class, which won't be sold 'as is', 10-12 years old. Posted by ttbn, Tuesday, 2 June 2026 9:40:17 AM

The North Koreans could probably beat Australia...
Geez, even the North Korean women could probably beat Australia... http://youtu.be/Rsz-_fgWspo Donald Trump heard about these large god-like statues and ordered his own made. Posted by Armchair Critic, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 8:25:47 PM

Australia should never have gotten into the AUKUS deal.

Hi AC,
Tied of your old sub, always sinking when you least expect it. The Chinese at Global Shop Direct have a special TV offer, not available in stores, Nuk Subs for only $199 million each plus $9.95 postage and handling, 4 easy payments with AfterPay, with a buy one get one free deal, 30 day money back guarantee, if not completely satisfied, return for a full refund of the purchase price. I think we should, if Albo calls within the next 15 minutes there's a free set of steak knives thrown in as well. If Chinese made toasters are good as they are, how bad could their nuk subs be! On the news tonight, America might not be able to supply any submarines, second hand or new because of their inability to keep up with their own requirements. Or, maybe, they are thoroughly pissed of with Australia's lack of interest in defence and its kowtowing to China.

I watched a video a few months back.
Lawrence Wilkerson talking about the poor state of U.S. shipbuilding. I wouldn't be able to find the video as shipbuilding wasn't in the video title. - But this is probably similar. Very likely we’ll get nothing from AUKUS: Malcolm Turnbul

Hi AC,
Thanks for the Turnbull YouTube, spot on. From the start when Morrison announced AUKUS I thought it was another con job being perpetrated on silly little Australia by America. I thought when Labor came to office they would dump this AUKUS nonsense, but it seems Labor are just as bigger toady's to America as the Liberals are. I support proper Australian defence in our region, I don't support international militarism which America practices in other peoples backyards. Why do we let ourselves be a part of that aggression, and that's what the purpose for these nuclear submarines is, to be part of Americas world aggression. I agree with you 100% Paul.

Now we've had our wet behind the ears War Minster Dicky Marles come back from a warmongers talk fest in Singapore with the "good news"; "All's great with our American submarine deal, its full steam ahead...by the way.... um... the subs we're getting are not exactly new...um... they're SECOND HAND, and a bargain at only $370 billion". The Americans assured Dicky that the trillion miles on the clock will not affect the performance of the 1999 model subs in any way, certainly not until the year 2040! The following YouTube might explains.
