Is Donald Trump The Real Threat To Free Market Capitalism

For most of my life the boogeyman of Capitalism was the external threat of Communism being imposed from afar. But could the real danger today be an existential threat coming from within, from the very figure of political power of Capitalism, the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Trump’s economic policies and actions, show he is a danger to free market Capitalism, as a driver of a significant shift towards state capitalism and protectionism, which critics argue is "deeply unhealthy" for free-market principles. Trump economics is a strange mix of "hypercapitalism" and "populist economic national socialism," which clash violently with the traditional conservative principles of free market Capitalism. The question is, will Trump create a better world economy through his radical policies, or will we be left wishing the bogyman of Communism had taken over when he had the chance?

Mr Trump is making a splash in his own little pond.
But the wider world is more conservative.
They are just causing ripples.
They refuse to join in with the splashing game.
Mr Trump can last for another three years or so.
Or maybe not that long.
But perhaps not all he has done is bad.
Perhaps some of his ideas will endure.
And future populations might benefit from them.
Perhaps.

Hi Ipso Fatso,

I think Trump is doing a little more than "just causing ripples", although many in his own Republican party, and some from within his MAGA base are questioning Donald's economic sanity. After all Trump is nothing more than a glorified used car salesman. Trumps belief that he can tariff his way to economic success is badly ill-founded. In some sections of the business world he will garner support, particularly the non competitive industries which require tariff protection to survive, the American car industry for example. Trumps hypercapatalism is appealing to groups like Big Oil, which see an opportunity to steal their way to super profits with the help of Donald. Trump accused Maduro of using public office to create personal wealth for himself and his cronies, probably true, is not Trump doing the very same thing. You can't keep a good used car salesman down!

Most recent annualised US GDP.... 4.5%
US added extra 178000 new jobs in March 2026 (that's in one month)
Most recent US inflation rate annualised.... 2.4%

Yeah, Trump is killing capitalism!!

If Albo was able to boost those type of numbers, Paul would be tripping over himself to tell us what a wonderful job he's doing. But suffering TDS means never having to be consistent. (or correct).

Thanks Trumpster,

Those figures, were they from a post by Donald on his propaganda site Truth Social? I looked up US GDP its 2.1%. Unemployment rate 4.3%, inflation you got that right at 2.4%, so lets make it 1%, sounds better. Didn't Donald sack the US Statistician, because she wouldn't put out numbers Donald wanted to hear!
