Perspective is required.
The population is growing, therefore roads deaths are growing. The number of cars is growing, therefore roads deaths are growing. The total kilometres travelled per year is growing, therefore roads deaths are growing Posted by mhaze, Thursday, 1 January 2026 2:38:11 PM

Absolutely simplistic. Fines are increasing, demerits are increasing, idiots on roads are increasing.
There is no excuse for speeding, drink driving or drug taking. These drivers need not be on our roads. The consequence of speeding to the community is arrogance, disrespect, to the persons that live in the street concerned. Drink driving or drug taking, has been outlawed for that long it requires immediate detention for some time as it is old news. The only excuse for collision is i was not looking. The infringements and cameras are going to escalate big time. cameras that see forward and behind plus trip meters. Give them nothing to infringe people for and nothing will change. We are in the hands of speeding drunk or drugged drivers. Someone sitting on the speed limit it is illegal to pass. Anyone that is killed by speeding drugged or intoxicated drivers is murder. Any crash has consequences That can be avoided. This is Australia's war on the roads that we share with kids and cyclists and pedestrians. I want to see black boxes in all cars. That can only be read by police. Posted by doog, Thursday, 1 January 2026 6:59:02 PM

"Absolutely simplistic."
Well let me make it less simplistic for you. Total VKT, (vehicle kilometres travelled) has INcreased by 30% in the past 20 years. Why? More cars, more people, more economic activity. Meanwhile road deaths has DEcreased by 16% in the same period. Even more so, the deaths per kilometre travelled has more than halved and is now down to 4.9 deaths per 1 billion kilometres travelled. And while you're rushing to blame drivers, you might ponder that badly maintained or badly designed roads are factors in 20% of all crashes. You might also look at how the statistics are prepared. For example, if a car slides off the road, speed is listed as a factor irrespective of the actual speed. And if a car crashes on a bend, equally speed is considered to be a cause, again without any consideration of the actual speed. Its never been safer to be on our roads. Enjoy. Our roads are never safe as long as we have disrespectful drivers on our roads, suburban or open roads.
Drive to the speed limit and everybody will have a share of the road. IT is illegal to pass a vehicle sitting on the speed limit. Speed limit sign's are the conductor of our roads. Arrogant individuals are putting every body else at risk. Murder is illegal The speed limit is there to protect the driver. That means driving above the speed limit is murder. Accidents do not happen without a cause. If all are obeying the law it remains an accident. There is no justification for speeding. There is no justification for drugs or alcohol while driving. There is no justification for speeding. Drivers that go to fast around roundabouts with infants in car can cause autism in young brains. I do not believe kids should be in cars before the age of 6 yo. Just another cycle of speeding. Posted by doog, Friday, 2 January 2026 4:20:25 PM

" I do not believe kids should be in cars before the age of 6 yo."
So anyone who has a kid is condemned to stay at home for the first 6 years? Evidence for the autism claim? Thought not. If an ambulance goes over the speed limit, are they being inherently unsafe? Why is doing 61 in a 60 zone inherently unsafe? Why are speed limits always in round figures. They're guesses and slightly exceeding the guess made by someone in head office is not inherently unsafe. Again, driving is the safest its ever been. Enjoy it and stop whining. Posted by mhaze, Friday, 2 January 2026 5:11:21 PM

Roundabouts are traps for infants with brains that do not fit their scull .
Lights and sirens are emergency vehicles that require give way in any situation. Flashing lights on a highway equates a 40 klm speed limit. Same as speed signage. For work areas. Over the limit d1riving is a scourge on society that is illegal and unnecessary. No debate possible will surpass the law. Abide with the law or the law will down grade you. Dash cams are alive and well and a thorn in the side of stupid drivers both forward and behind. Do illegal drivers have dash cams. Posted by doog, Friday, 2 January 2026 6:34:13 PM

Vehicles are safer today, than they ever were, seat belts play an important part in reducing the number of road fatalities. One thing here in Brisbane that is of concern is the growing number of "kids" riding E-scooters and E-bikes, often illegally and with total disregard for others.
Doog I see your concerns, but the Trumpster, totally out of character of course, is making some good points. Happy New Year to both of you and keep safe on the roads.....particularly if you are driving a mobility scooter! Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 3 January 2026 5:20:08 AM

Gps speedo. You must take notice of the cars speedo, and not the gps.
kids on scooters are a danger to traffic. A parental problem that is out of control. Parents have largely given up. Until parents are held accountable for their kids actions nothing will change. The road rules are not negotiable, serial offenders need Huge fines or default, seizure of property. Hit and run drivers is a serious problem mostly because of guilty drivers. Accidents can happen but only if you are driving within the road rules. Speedsters are driving without insurance. Why buy insurance then cancel it as soon as they get in a car. Police need to be more serious and demand larger and larger penalties. Driving is an art form only some can achieve, so try a little harder and save being penalized. Greetings Trumpster,
Remember this; Einstein + an idiot is smarter than Einstein on his own! With me on the left, and you on the right, the sum total of our combined intelligence is greater than myself on my own. Granted you may only add one percent to the total, but you are an addition. I'm not sure what you would be adding, but it must be something. Agree? p/s I've been told you have an uncanny ability at catching flies with your mouth, I can't do that, not that I've tried since I was 5 years old, but that's certainly a positive on your part. What other interesting talents do you have to add to our combined intelligence level? Happy New Year. Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 3 January 2026 3:53:30 PM

It shows the mhaze is immature in his selection of speed over road rules.
Paul your posts are balanced without bias. There are some hardheads on here. The world will keep rotating. and idiots will still be idiots. When it is a legal requirement to abide for other users safety. It's a matter of closing the gap between Illegal and legal. The worst part is the difuran's between right and wrong. I believe it is a mindset that needs psychiatric evaluation as to weather they should be on our roads. Greatly increased use of cameras that see both ways are being rolled out. + trip meters and idiot cameras. It is not a hard ask. As of tomorrow i will be off on a 30 day international holiday. stay safe for 2026. Posted by doog, Saturday, 3 January 2026 7:15:48 PM

The road toll, drug toll, general stupidity etc could be reduced within months with the reintroduction of a National Service !
As long as people refuse to see this as a mentality caused issue, no amount of cameras & Police will change that ! Educating people instead of indoctrinating them & creating some civilising culture would also help. Posted by Indyvidual, Monday, 5 January 2026 11:40:37 AM

The number of drowning in NSW this year so far is outrageous.
We need to immediately stop all children under 6 from swimming. Rules should be instituted to stop anyone going into water over 1 foot high and get the police to run around with poles that measure how high the water is and fine those breaking the 1 foot rule. Oh and don't get me started on baths and showers. Posted by mhaze, Monday, 5 January 2026 11:56:46 AM

Trumster,
"We need to immediately stop all children under 6 from swimming." Okay stay in your sand pit, you'll be fine. Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 5 January 2026 8:53:53 PM

The mentality of drivers shows when you're the lead car at 100km/h in a 100km/h zone yet some still overtake you & then sit right in front of you at 100km/h !
Sadly, they don't focus on driver mentality at Driving Schools because the instructors themselves appear to be lacking it ! Poor mentality is cultural when there's no culture ! Posted by Indyvidual, Monday, 12 January 2026 8:15:51 AM

ttbn, I didn't realise you can get up to 100km/hr on your mobility scooter!
