The Pager Techo War

I must admit that when I first heard of this I laughed at the
technical simplicity and cleverness of it all.
Of cause some were killed and many injured, but they were all members
of a terrorist organisation.
Somehow "they" got hold of the pagers between the manufacturer and
Hezbollah and inserted the explosive and made a connection to the
addressing logic in the pager. Just getting ready to do that would
take quite a while.
Then "they" had to send a signal into the pager network addressed
to all pagers.
It would be interesting to know if people in Lebanon with pagers
for other purposes got the same message on their screen.
I wonder what it said.

One child was killed when she fiddled with her terrorist father's pager, but otherwise the right people copped it.

A brilliant operation. There is no doubting Israeli ingenuity and determination to protects itself.

It upset the ABC greatly, prompting much discussion of the action as a war crime.

Yes, very unlucky that the child had the pager. Still in a war that
is exactly what happens, just bad luck. Don't start a war !
I wonder if her father regrets joining Hezbollah ?
FYI the pager transmitter sends transmissions for all pagers whether
they are the one customer or many customers, and the pager
that hears its address then keeps the message, other pagers just let
the message go to the bit bucket. That keeps the msg private.
That is why only Hezbollah pagers accepted the message and detonated.
Hezbollah can only now go to a manufacturer and take them directly
off the production line provided the manufacturer is not in the act
with "them".
I wonder if Hezbollah members will now accept ANY pagers ?

Some people have not, and will not, condemn the Hamas atrocities against Israeli civilian men, women, children and babies that stared the war, but they start barking when a single child is unintentionally killed because her father is a terrorist.

Netanyahu got what he wanted - there will be no cease-fire, these hostages which give him such a headache will soon all be dead, then he can keep the war going forever, and come 2026 he could cite this never-ending war as an excuse to postpone the Israeli elections and remain in power indefinitely like Putin his friend, meanwhile as despairing liberal Israelis leave the country which helps his electoral demography.

But he must be careful not to kill too many Arabs, only a few thousands here a few thousands there, not enough to win the war, just enough to brag about and show cause for his existence, but not kill too many because if all Arabs are finished, so would the war...

Sinwar, Nasrallah and Khamenei all share that interest so they can all remain in power, no matter how many of their own are killed. There is every reason to believe that the four are coordinated, making sure that none of them ever wins nor loses the war.

Hi Bezz,
"Of cause some were killed and many injured, but they were all members
of a terrorist organisation."
- 26 countries and the EU who only recognises their military wing as a terrorist organisation, not their political wing.
Not Russia, not India, not China, so only a small proportion of countries and a small proportion of the worlds inhabitants.

Also there's 2 sides to most arguments.
I'm sure Hezbollah view these attacks as 'terrorist attacks'
- But it's kind of fair play.

Nasty business though, many lost fingers, eyes, hands, faces.
Some have brain damage.

Hi Yuyutsu,

"Netanyahu got what he wanted - there will be no cease-fire, these hostages which give him such a headache will soon all be dead, then he can keep the war going forever, and come 2026 he could cite this never-ending war as an excuse to postpone the Israeli elections and remain in power indefinitely like Putin his friend, meanwhile as despairing liberal Israelis leave the country which helps his electoral demography."
Yes, I've been thinking for a while that the hostages are a liability to him and he'd e just as happy to have them - 'gone'.

It was a masterful move by the Israelis, but it may also have been a knee jerk reaction whilst backed into a corner, after they lost access to Hezbollahs existing communications.
- They seemed to be Johnny on the spot when they switched?
It's notaworthy that Israel inflicted a significant strike upon their enemy, and this time they really did limit the civilian casualties.

Well played, but nasty.

Armchair, they did not lose contact when Hezbollah changed to pagers, they could just monitor the pager network and decode all messages
addressed to members.
The radios that blew up would have been digital radios like DMR
networks that we have here. I notice one was an Icom radio.
A Japanese brand which makes you wonder how "they" got at them.

Hi Bezz,
I was talking about the existing communications network prior to switching over to the use of the pagers.
U.S. news outlets are reporting the Israelis had a hand in the manufacture of the pagers, shell companies, multiple layers of Israeli intelligence officers and their assets fronting a legitimate company that produced the pagers.

Hi Yuyutsu,
What makes you think Putin and Netanyahu are mates right now?
Both are engaged in indirect actions against the other,
Israel sending weapons to Ukraine, and Russia is sending weapons to Iran.

Russia and Iran will probably sign an partnership agreement on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting in Kazan, which will put all 3 countries Russia, China, Iran in a 3 way partnerships with each other.
Russia also has a partnership with North Korea.

- I'm not sure there will be any further BRICS expansion this year though, they are consolidating and building the working framework for the existing expanded BRICS+ members.

Dear Critic,

«What makes you think Putin and Netanyahu are mates right now?»

I am not privy to their present thoughts, whether they changed because of the war.
All I can tell is that before the war they were great friends, they often met and talked, and Putin agreed to release imprisoned Israelis as a friendly gesture when Netanyahu asked him.
They also have much in common: http://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/14/opinion/benjamin-netanyahu-israel-putin-russia.html

«Both are engaged in indirect actions against the other,»

Correction: both are engaged in indirect actions against the other's country!

«Israel sending weapons to Ukraine, and Russia is sending weapons to Iran.»

Which serves the interests of anyone who wants a prolonged war.

Israel hasn't actually admitted to running the pager operation.

But Hezbollah are pointing the finger at Mossad.

Others are asking .."What fingers?".
