I'm sure that our National Security Establishment is
keeping a watch on things - and has protections
already in place. I'm sure that they are keeping a
watchful eye.

Plus Australia is in a good position with the allies
it has - and the relationships it has and is
cultivating.

Foxy,
Australia's demographic is changing so quickly, your above comment will be out of date by the weekend.

Hi and thanks BP,

That was an informative take on the Albanese visit to China. There is no doubt re-establishing dialog is a top priority for both governments. Its very much in Australia's interest to have harmonious relations with the largest power in our region, who incidentally is also by far our largest trading partner. The old 'Cold War' warriors from Dads Army on the forum wont see it that way, they believe we should be aggressive and belligerent towards China, in the Abbott style of shirt fronting. These guys think we have an "ace in the hole" in America, who will come galloping to our rescue should things get to hot for us to handle. How mistaken their thinking really is.

Thanks Banjo and Paul,

Official and unofficial trade sanctions stacked up
since 2020 to cost Australian exports up to $20
billion dollars. $13 billion a year for commodities
including coal, wine, beef, barley, and lobsters
as business and politics entwined in the relationship
as never before.

And as we can see, and as the Prime Minister said:

"It is in Australia's interests to have good relations
with Chine."

Our Prime Minister has been criticized by some
that this China trip was merely a "photo" opportunity,
which he loves.

That may be true up to a point. All politicians love
photo opportunities. Tony Abbott, Scott Morrison, et
al, were notorious for theirs.

However the Prime Minister's mantra is simple as
stated earlier - "It is always better to manage strong
disagreements, difficulties, and differences through
dialogue than hostile stand offs."

And if the trip results in a resumption of around the
table talks and the cessation of coercive trade sanctions
with giving up little in return - that is a pretty good
outcome.
