Living in Australia is expensive so perhaps we should reduce the numbers of students so only those that can afford to live here are given student visa. Also the quality of education has declined so perhaps less is more in the long term.

We should also accept that as emerging economies improve access to education staying home to study should be encouraged in their homelands rather than re-locating.

I do not see we should have an industry based on education. Should be primarily for Australians with far greater quality and emphasis on innovation, creativity and cultural inputs. Currently too much pandering to mechanical type skills. People can gain these skills online!

Financial security of students should not be our responsibilty.

The attacks on Indian or any other students is abhorrent. Before anyone could start labeling anyone racist the offenders should be named, identified and shamed. IN many cases the the offenders seem to be recent imports. Yesterday an Asian man raped an Australian woman. Does this make all Asians racist? Only if you use the logic of the left media. Should more be dome to stop Asian or Muslim men raping Australian women?

It's not racist, it's just our breakdown of law and order magnified by the courts lenient response.

Look at our streets in the city in a weekend, what a disgrace, it's a battle field, the council has bought an armored car to help deal with it.

The government has let law and order slip, placed judges and magistrates who are so socially weak that they no longer give out meaningful sentences.

Public transport at night is all but non existent, why was this young man out walking in a park for goodness sake!

Most of us in Melbourne know the city streets and parks are unsafe, the public transport useless so we DRIVE! and will not give up our cars for weak promises. Bugger global warming and CO2, we want to be safe now, not feel good about less CO2 some time in the future, our families safety is worth more to us than the environment.

Other services are shoddy as well - a good reason to cycle your government at least every other election.

The ALP Australia wide is complacent and useless, their only hard work is done getting themslves re-elected.

The Indian government reaction is racist as racism is not proven. As attacks have been by other ethnic groups to date our government would be accused of racism if it actually supported Indian view without pure facts. So what can they do? racist claims either way. This is why we should not be babysitters for kids going to school. It is best they stay at home for their education. If they are going to live and/or work in high crime rate areas then they need mum and dad to look after them, not a foreign government.

They do seem to expect the little darlings will all be looked after when away from home, I have seen some of the moms and dads interviewed and wonder at their naivity. Have you ever traveled to India, I have, it's not like you get any support if you are a foreigner - the opposite in fact, you get skinned alive by everyone. You go there knowing that though, I've been 9 times so it's not like I'm new to it, (since 1977.)

I was somewhat amazed at the Indian Foreign Minister's rant, but then you see the way our pollies try to compensate. You just have to wonder if the Indian government is going to get our governments to finally act on law and order locally where they won't do it for the population. We just get excuses and promises, empty of course.

The requiremnet that we should assist " Students " to obtain work whist thet are " studying " in Australia is complete nonsense.

So to is the concept that "study" can be treated as a stepping stone to Permanent Residency in Australia , equally nonesense.

In that instance , are we not robbing the orignating Country of the future " Finest ' ?

How about.. You come, you study and then take your new found talents back to enrich your own country

Of course , this overlooks questions such as where would we find the Nations' Taxi Drivers?

Odd as it may seem, I am told the a large number of Taxis are leased out by their owners on a WEEKLY fixed payin basis .. to people who theroticaly are only allowed to work 20 hours a week
