By Bruce Riedel, published 11/12/2009

Defeating al-Qaida is worth a try, but failure in Afghanistan would embolden Islamic radicals.

It may be the taliban cash flo, but it is also the cash flo of the Afgan nation.
Probably being propped up by Iran also. Big wages to be a resistence fighter, makes sense to keep the war going.
It would be in Iran's favour to keep it going, so America doesn't have to look elsewhere to keep the military employed.

I think the Americans should go home and stay there until they can establish some strategies in warfare that might appear to work .

Shazbaz, I pretty well agree with you.

Trouble is, who have we got powerful enough to replace the Yanks, as we say in the bush?

Still and all, I guess it is sensible ideas that we need, rather than power, which Obama is now left to rely totally on.

Just wondering whether a touch of decency and humility from both sides might do well in today's world.

Regards, BB, WA.
