Last week wasn't a one-off, the 'Kyle and Jackie O Show' has a history of sordid publicity stunts.

When I was a single father and reported my then 8-year old daughter being sexual abused other then becoming the primary suspect I found no assistance at all. If just Kyle Sandilands had been there my daughter could have at least had assistance. I then took my daughter to the hospital and medical statement was provided that the healing of the injuries my daughter had sustained were consistent with the time frame when she had been on access to her mother. Unbeknown to me then my daughters half sibling (then 10 years old – now an adult) was at the Children Court also having complained about being sexual abused then by the mothers husband, and the Children Court ordered him to stay away from the matrimonial home. In general I never particularly liked Kyle Sandilands but in this case regarding the alleged rape incident I rather view people should lay off from Kyle as if the girl now finally gets to assistance she was for so long denied then is not that what every child is entitled upon in the first place

Antiseptic, your argument that the veracity of the rape claim is central to the issue is completely spurious. You are merely endorsing the very notion of this squalid radio program and its even more squalid lie detector test - that it is somehow acceptable to strap a child to a lie detector in order to discuss her under-age sexual experiences and assess her honesty. One does not have to assume she is truthful (although there is no reason not to) to be outraged, nor does one need to be a 'feminist'. The word 'rape' may well be, sad to say, what is required to bring this repugnant program to the attention of the wider media and public; the mere fact a 14yo girl should be forced/encouraged/induced by three people including her own mother to utter these words on radio is itself a disgrace. Your mocking dismissal of the author is almost what one would expect from the odious, talent-free numbskulls who present the program.

What you havent said Rapscallion is that this child was 'mentally' Raped again and this time for profit ; surely prostituting a minor must be illegal ?
Before the radio event only the mother , daughter and rapist knew about the rape now the world does , the daughter is marked for life , and Sandilands profits and has a laugh for the rest of his life and since he has not been charged with at least 'Gross Indecency to a Minor' it must be legal ?

For me, there is an underlying ideological message involved- that powerful people; eg media and other authority figures, have the right to reduce the rest of us to the level of non-person.
Underlying this is the refusal of the so called regulator to take action against Austereo. Instead, Austereo have removed these multi-million dollar a year cretins because their high-profile sponsors have objected.
"Market forces triumph", thus
cheer the laissez-faire advocates of corporatist culture, but we get a glimpse of what a future society based exclusively on the whims of the deregulated "corporate psychopath" might look like, with the grotesque and medieval treatment of the helpless girl.
Media Watch and others like Amanda Meade of the Australian, for some time have related the tawdry stunts of this show, obviously aimed at the exploitation, regardless of the probable psychic reduction, of the commodified massive young audience.

Yeah I don't believe feminism has anything to do with this issue either. Common sense and "decency" (whatever that is) are more to the point. Kyle and Jackie O aside, what the hell was the mother thinking, and how did the mangement think they'd even get away with such a stunt, let alone think it was a good idea?. Mind you, judging on reports from Media Watch, this sort of tripe has been broadcast on this breakfast radio program for years. So isn't it amazing how the major sponsors have pulled out only after the outrage in the media since, to do with this particular stunt?

Interesting to wake up and find Rob Denehy's new inclusion at "Public Opinion" entitled,
"Decline of American Civilisation- are the dark ages coming?".
To me the article really relates to what's being talked about here.
The lead-in for the Denehy article goes along these lines:
"Trends in American culture, education and communication may be creating a perfect storm of ignorance", specifically relating to the young.
Not that exogenous forces feeding off the brains of the young is anything new- beleive me I know, I grew up in the 'sixties and 'seventies.
All about attention-spans and loss of ability to relate to others. Perhaps it all demonstrates the processes involved in the manufacturing of of people utterly voided of empathy, as demonstrated in examples like Jackie O, Kyle Sandilands and other elements of tabloid MSM?
