By Dino Cesta, published 17/2/2009

The Government’s panicked, war-style rhetoric in dealing with the economic crisis does little to inspire public confidence.

Who wants to continually see or hear of discarded politicians? Who wants to constantly be reminded of the damage they caused when in power? All of them did abuse that power and yes, should be heard; by a Nuremberg type Court

Shrinkonomics?
There is something fundamentally wrong with our whole system when it depends on guessing the confidence of the under informed, overly emotionally great unwashed!
And economics is lauded as a science yer right and so is Astrology it too has complex maths and no two practitioners can agree on out comes.

Hyperbole aside it strikes me as bizarre that in this world of information, science and striving for it's all driven by a notional concept with the scientific (credibility) predictability of the climate. A science (?) ultimately driven by greed/power and self interest even against the logic and rationality, self fulfilling hysteria (lemmings)? Yet on one hand the most vociferous supporters of Capitalist economics decry AGW as irrational and emotionally based. Spot the hypocrisy?

It all makes one wonder if the much sought Grand Unified Theory is simply self interest/ greed/power and the sum total of humanity is just a 6.5 billion strong plague of oversized, egotistical and emotional beings proving that not all evolutionary changes are necessarily positive.

This proposal would make a lot of sense in a rational government situation where the real desire is to drive the ship of state on a course that would provide the optimal solution for all.

However, this is not the case for our current government that is much more interested in self aggrandizement and jobs for the boys.

Krudd's game plan is to force the opposition to vote against his programs by making them as obnoxious and irresponsible as possible. The most recent example is the stimulus package. Krudd took 3 months to cobble it together and was trying to push the senate into voting for it in less than 48 hours with minimal time for debate and review of the items. In fact many of the items in the package are so vague and lacking in economic stimulus ( he doesn't even say it will create jobs - only preserve them) that the money could be spent in many different ways with little or no accountability.
Krudd could easily have engaged Turnbull (who has vastly superior economic and financial skills to anyone on the other side of the chamber) to get his agreement before the vote - but that is not krudd's game.

Krudd wanted the opposition to vote down the stimulus bill so that it could be resubmitted a second time within days (as it was) and have it voted down again and thus allow krudd to call for a double desolution and an election this year.

This would mean an early election where krudd could redefine government along his social democratic ideals and jettison all those pesky little commitments made before the last election - like a financially conservative government and the carbon reduction goals.

Politics in Australia are really at their lowest ebb , no one can honestly say they can believe anything politicians say . Spin and political bling blot out any chance of voters understanding .
Voters say to themselves before the ballot box , who might best represent me ? And simply take a punt based on nothing . Hence the NSW fiasco .
Perhaps it might be more productive to figure out how to get out of the fiscal mess that in the end will eclipse Whitlam , Keating etc

Well Kevin is too comatose with fear to show any leadership. We are going to try and shrink to greatness.Rumours are suggesting that Kevin may go for an early election this yr,sometime in November. If he does,it will mean that 2010 won't be very nice.
