The polygamy nonsense was a one day wonder, dragged out to a couple of days by the increasingly ridiculous Keysar Trad. The rebuttles of the idea in Australia by sensible Muslims and Muslims who seem to know the Koran, were there to be read at the same time as the pot-stirring of an imam nobody has heard of.

But no, good old Keysar had to keep things going.

I feel almost sorry for Muslims, who have to put up with the embarrassment he causes.

Does Keysar Trad also advocate that women should be allowed to marry more than one husband? If not, why not?

As a citizen Keysar Trad has the right to campaign for a change. However, untill he get a critical mass to agree, the topic is moot so why the angst?
I personally wouldn't object to either as I can't see a logical reason that can differentiate between the sanctioned and reality. Those who will will those who won't won't.
I wouldn't indulge simply because to me one wife is more than enough most of times. Besides at my age I'd need a bulk supply little blue pills.

Onliners,you need to know a few things about Muslim polygamy. They are trying to sneak it past sympathetic non-thinkers who go out of their way to salaam malee-kum them.

They know this country has laws will not allow polygamy if the aspirant tries to get married three times in Australia so they now plan to go overseas to marry there and then bring the brides and their family hangers-on into the country.They have been told it would have been different if they were married in a country that recognises polygamy so then they could bring the wife in.I hope I have been misinformed but if there is any truth in this, Parliament needs to hurry up and act against it.

A Muslim writer to "The West Australian" wrote that there is about 1% of Muslims in the world who have multiple wives and they are the rich who can afford it.The Koran says a man has to have the financial resources to be permitted more than 1 wife. Most who are clamouring here for the "right" would NEVER qualify in their country of origin.They are thinking of the money that will come by way of spouse support and child allowances. Keyser Trad barely had a substantial permanent source of employment when as he says he proposed to another woman.He has 9 kids from his first wife.Nice work,Trad!
Under Muslim law a man only needs to say " I divorce you " three times before three or four witnesses and the marriage is annulled.Then he can try again. These guys have the game by the throat,dont they.We need to wake up to all that is implied in their multiple wife ways. No wonder Australia is such an attractive option for immigration.

Optimistic and somewhat self-deluded calls for polygamist marriages to be recognised in Australia are just that - optimistic and self-deluded. Whilst these calls may go down well at the local mosque, for most Australians it comes across as just more divisive multiculturalism.

The media shouldn't have given this story or the Sheik the time of day.

If you can find any 3 people who give their informed adult consent to be equally bound in a legaly recognised, marriagelike partnership, I say let them go.

I humbly submit that such partnerships are going to be very rare. Can you imagine convincing your current spouse to add another person to the mix?

Of course, some people may be advocating polygamy in the sense of one head of the household and a number of subordinate lesser spouses... and that is a model I DON'T agree with. Anything done with informed adult consent that doesn't harm anyone else should be legal, anything that infringes this basic standard should be illegal.

A teaching that is not based on the truth is futile and will prove problematic. That's why along with many things, Islam teachings on polygamy is so stupid.

It's time you and Keysar Trad come to grip with this -- Muhammad never met an angel from God. There is not a single proof of such meetings. Those were just lies and deceptions of Muhammad. Islam is nothing but the handiwork of Muhammad over 23 years !!

Besides, there is nothing sophisticated, unearthly about teachings in Quran. Could such a Quran have come straight from a godhead whose wisdom is supposedly beyond imagination ??
Hmmm... I don't think so. Quran comes across as works of very ordinary man. I think Confucius was much more intellectual.
