By Walt Brasch, published 18/2/2008

Rebates in the US have been given in the hope of stimulating the economy. What will happen when Australians get their promised tax rebates?

A great opinion, maybe we should all place our “China made” national flags on our shopping carts.
You would have to wonder what the final position will be when the large numbers of jobs go to China. The problem is the shirts you talked about don't fall apart in two months, they just keep on going on and this will be a bigger problem in the years ahead. Wal-mart or other retailers are not the problem we are, the consumer and our need for cheaper products whether we realy need them or not.

Actually there is a bigger problem: Our current economy relies on each human being one of two things: A unit of labour in the market (to be substituted when cheaper unit is available), or a capital owner. This is fine if you choose your parents well, but is an issue for the young.
As more and more production, accounting and decision making is automated, labour units must compete more with each other and with technology.
What happens when 90% of food, health, energy is automated and controlled by a small oligopoly? Will human rights exist in a corperatised society? How is one to "proceed" in society if 99% of wealth was decided by our grandparents? What about the fact that that much power will clearly corrupt.
Bush and co are clearly not real leaders.
It's up the US public to lay bare the puppet masters and start fixing the problem.
