By Jim Nolan, published 7/2/2008

Australia should offer aid and resources to ensure a free and fair Kirkuk referendum is held in Iraqi Kurdistan.

I am so sick and tired of white Australians wanting to give money away or to act pious on human rights on behalf of people in other countries. But won't lift a single finger to assist Indigenous people whose land they are making a living from without providing any financial compensation for the loss of our land .

I don't give a red button about the Kurds,Iraq, Afghanistan, Asia, Africa or anywhere else for that matter. Indigenous people should come first because had you not stolen our resources and land you lot would be still living in the crowed streets of England or Europe.

Get your prioties straight and fix the mess you people created, with the present generation remaining silent and ignorant on the matter which is killing Indigenous people each week something Liegh might think is a good thing.

Yindin,

1. There are thirty million Kurds, and half a million Australian Indigenous people.
2. The budget for Indigenous affairs (education, health, housing, CDEP) has been around three billion dollars a year for a couple of decades.
3. Indigenous people have had half of the NT returned, a third of WA returned, a fifth of SA returned, and much of Cape York as well.
4. Many of us have spent years working at Aboriginal settlements, often voluntarily.
Get your head out of your arse. It must be so easy to bitch and whinge, as long as your dumb audience knows no better.

If there is a village without its own idiot, Yindin would be perfect.

Interestingly, a recent article by Michael Rubin from the American Enterprise Institute on this general issue:

http://www.aei.org/publications/pubID.27327,filter.all/pub_detail.asp

The American Enterprise Institute are amongst Bush's puppetmasters.

Rubin seems a bit more critical of Iraqi Kurdistan than Nolan. But neither talk much about how to achieve genuine Kurdish independence. Because that would mean the partial destruction of Syria, Turkey, Armenia and Iran - Kurds have historically occupied parts of those countries for over centuries if not millennia. Nolan doesn't mention Turkish atrocities against the Kurds and Rubin probably just doesn't care - the PKK are the only terrorists not the Turkish army.

Rather than a half-hearted approach, Stephen Smith should openly support full Kurdish independence - not just in Iraq which would be a complete cop-out.
