Kurdistan or barbaristan? : Comments

By Kamal Mirawdeli, published 10/1/2008

The Kurdistan region is no longer a country, a land, a society, nor even a civilisation - but it is America's idea of a model democracy.

What you are saying is very disturbing, as western countries know nothing about what you have detailed.

The West believe that the Kurds are a peaceful people, undermind and denied automony.

Yes we read there are some Kurds fighting for automonous recognition, your piece paints another picture. Why is this and how can the Western countries be better informed?

Confused as to why this article claims Kurdistan is under the control of the US.

Seems unreal how every trouble spot in the world is attributed to the US.

America's policy in Kurdistan has transformed Kurdish society in what it is today? You must be kidding. The Kurdish parties have done this without help from outside and long before the liberation. If you'd visited Southern Kurdistan in the early Nineties (I think you left in the late 70s) you'd also woulfd have come to the conclusion that the American intervention had a positive aspect on Kurdish society: corruption, cultural decline and the total lack of respect for the human life were endemic 20 years ago. I for one see progress since the liberation -- the (small) beginnings of free press and civil society, atl least in the cities.
