Applying the paradox of prevention: eradicate HIV : Comments

By Bill Bowtell, published 9/8/2007

If few resources go into prevention we can hardly be shocked that the spread of HIV-AIDS continues unchecked.

Refer this one to the Australian Health Minister Tony [I'm a Catholic] Abbott. Catholicism doesn't recognise homosexuality so it is difficult to treat a disease which is associated with a situation you don't associate with.

Wherever promiscuity is promoted and embraced disease will increase. No amount of sex education will change a persons habits if they are not taught self control and decent morals.

Runner,

Abstinence based programs have been shown in recent studies to have NO EFFECT at all on behaviour. http://www.mathematica-mpr.com/abstinencereport.asp
George Bush has pushed through laws in the US that require 25% of all treatment program funding to go to abstinence based projects.

This is a colossal waste. Harm minimization is a proven strategy for decreasing the effects of such social/medical problems as HIV, Hepatitis, drug addiction, prostitution etc.

Preaching morality only works on those who already believe. It converts no one and stigmatizes the victims of what are rightly considered medical problems.

America suffers under the onslaught of ideologically driven evangelical Christians who, even though they are a minority, want to be able to dictate how others should live. I firmly believe there is no value in replacing current HIV prevention programs with Ideology/Faith based programs. Religion is personal and belongs in the home. Lets keep it there.

There are times when statements are made in articles that are so preposterous that they cannot go unchallenged.

The idea that any nation could have taken action to prevent the Holocaust simply staggers belief.

The Holocaust did not begin until Germany was at war with the Allies. The only way the Holocaust could have been stopped was by the military conquest of Germany, and despite the best efforts of all concerned, the Holocaust was over before it could be achieved.

The opposition of the Catholic Church to contraceptives is notorious, and is part of its policy (shared by the muslim world) that nothing must be done to stem the rise in world population. One of the natural reactions to this is pestilence, of which AIDS is just one example. The curse of overpopulation is the root cause of almost all the problems in the world, and is set to remain unresolved.

But is it young people who need more education?

I read a report that the significant surge in HIV in Australia is largely attributable to gays aged 35-45 indulging in what they knew to be risky sex - usually not wearing a condom. The bisexuals do not wear a condom with their female partner/s either.

All of these men would have seen the Grim Reaper ads, which were successful in reducing the spread of infection for a time, but were withdrawn allegedly through concern about stereotyping gays.

It has been claimed that the older gays become tired of using a condom and they are also emboldened by the success of medical treatments of HIV which improve survival rates and reduce the obvious physical signs of infection.

There has to be a better way than putting out generalised safe sex messages because older gays, bi's and swingers will disregard them as 'nanny' stuff. Fact is, they get a buzz out of taking risks.

There is another disturbing factor ignored here, which could swing us back to the 1990s and that is denial could unleash multi-resistant infection in exponential growth rates.

AIDS organisations are mostly dominated by tired old gay activists. They still think they are in the year 2000. It is 7 years after their last assessment of the situation.

Newly infected people could also acquire the multi-resistance from the previous hosts of the virus. There will be little in the hospital pharmacy to help them.

Since this complacency, there are rumours of rising infection with the understanding that the damage of disease is under control. Some say "HIV is on the rise". What does that mean? Nothing much, most ignore them.

We are at one of those turning points in the epidemic.

We can start talking about MR HIV, or we can waffle on about the esteemed pleasure health spas of the Lesbian, Transgender, Intersex, bisexual, and a partridge in a pear tree, and finally, the least important, gay men. The Political correctness in this city is beyond a joke it really is freaking scary.

ACON wants money to research an environmental impact study for the feasibility of research for positive women, find positive asylum seekers, positive lesbian whales, and maybe gay men if they beg.

There are 3 Aidsocrats employed in Sydney for every person infected. They spend most of their time writing grant applications and reports for the next grant application. They have little time to deal with smelly people.

The safe sex posters say that the disease is under control with "even less pills now" the infected go to back work. They have ornaments of their mascot "blowing its own trumpet".

So with MR HIV, ACON says: take the breathing apparatus, the drip and the 1000s of medications wheel them to work in Woolies as they serve customers covered in some staph infection. Then under today's strategy, you make sure the infected workers conveniently die behind the counter at Woolies, as it may be a bother to clean out the mess.

Start again, it is stupid!
