No sane economist advocates a free market in organs, as this would lead to gross inequality, with only the very wealthy able to afford a transplant.

Well put.

For my two bob, the opt-out system really is the way to go - I can't see any problem, provided people have the opportunity to decide against donating if they wish.

It's my body and my organs no one has the right but me to determine what I do with them. Best offer wins.
