I think the Services need more Chaplains in an attempt to rescue these people from lives of depravity.

Larry Kramer put a similar point a bit more forcefully in a piece in the Los Angeles Times last week:

I am sick to death of people bringing down America and its armed forces. This "intolerant minority", the USA military, is the only thing resembling the "force of good" left in this confused, politically correct, white-anted Western world.
Gays, feminists, left-wing do-gooders, and multiculturalists ... you're time is up. Your movements have brought the Western world to its knees. When will you wake up and realise you are helping bring down the only force of good left on the planet? You've all pick, pick, and picked the cohesion out of the Western world so much that it doesn't know who it is any more. Without opening a protocol book, it doesn't know right from wrong, good from bad, or them from us - not the mentality you need in war time. And when you don't know who you are anymore, you sure as hell can't find people brave and committed enough to fight for it. Sure you'll find a few examples, enough to put a bullet-point list together. Stand behind America, otherwise there will be nothing left to pick at. If you bring down America, the world will we be ripe to be taken over by any cohesive nation, race or religion that sure as hell won't give a rat's about any gays and the like. Give it up and get behind the West. Keep it in the closet if you have to. Morality is "social fibre". It doesn't make things right or wrong, it just makes us unified or divided. Christians or cannibals, which one is better? That's not the point. The point is both are defined, unified and able to defend themselves. A divided, confused, conflicted, self-loathing nation is not able to defend itself. In the national interest, keep your sexuality to yourself. Posted by online_east, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 4:30:53 PM

Excepts from http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=68179 Nine News "Gay couples defence rights win applauded
Friday" Oct 28 2005:
"The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) has applauded a government decision to grant servicemen and women in same sex relationships the employment entitlements heterosexuals have.
Human Rights Commissioner Sev Ozdowski has welcomed comments by Defence Minister Robert Hill that the decision reflected the government's view that employers should not discriminate on the basis of family relationship choices. Dr Ozdowski said over the years HREOC had received a number of complaints of discrimination from Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in same sex relationships.
...The decision to extend employment entitlements to all ADF members in interdependent relationships was quietly announced last week in an internal defence memo."

A study, "The Effects of Including Gay and Lesbian Soldiers in the Australian Defense Forces: Appraising the Evidence," found:
"- Senior officials, commanders and scholars in the ADF regard the [earlier 1992] policy change as a successful one that contributes to greater equality and effective working relationships among military personnel;
- No overall pattern of disruption has been reported among the military ranks as a result of the policy change. Any individual cases of disruption were handled effectively through normal management procedures;
- By the late 1990’s, significant numbers of military personnel have successfully come out to their peers;
- Recruitment and retention of military personnel have not suffered as a result of the policy change; and
- Openly gay soldiers have successfully served in recent active deployments in East Timor...
