The boat people who attempt to get to Australia are not out for a pleasure trip in leaky boats, the reason most of them are trying to get here is because they have good reasons for leaving where they came from.
It is the job of the 'experts" in Australia to find out the facts of each boat person arriving here and to decide if they should be allowed to live here. The experts sometimes get confused and lock up or deport Australian citizens but hen nobody is perfect or accountable.
Many Jews perished in Germany because they were not accepted by other countries when they wanted to leave because they feared Hitler.
A bit less heat and a lot more light would be welcome in the debate.
