If political donations cannot be banned then there are a couple of simple rules which should be in place.

Political donations should only be allowed from people who are on the electoral role.

The level of the donations should be fixed at a level at which it is possible for all voters to afford.

It is not possible to have a one vote one value system when the rich can purchase increased influence on political parties.

The new rules for donations leave a lot to be desired. It will allow companies with multiple holdings and outlets to completely obfuscate their donations, in that they will be able to donate smaller undeclarable amounts many times without detection.
This is a corruption of the democratic principle of one man, one vote whereby it can so easily be substituted for 'one company, lots of influence.'
Further, in so doing, it is the victims (?) of the resultant policy who are inadvertently paying for their own diminishing influence, in that the donations are tax free and ipso facto, are funded by themselves from the public purse.
