Of all the arguments trying to justify discriminatory education systems this would have to be the silliest. Free market ed systems will like any free market system will cause the best products to be too expensive for Joe average. A protect example is public housing.

Let's think about Nelson's possible real motive: if there were to be a national curriculum with centralised control in Canberra, the government could also attempt to gain power over teachers' wages and conditions. Of course, these are all now state-based.

I believe Nelson's motives are linked directly to push by Liberal pragmatists to dish out more responsibilities to teachers, while also destroying teachers rights.

The idea of competition between schools just amazes me. Good grief how did we get here from back then in the good old days of picket fences and a stay at home mum - when a basic free education was unquestionably the right of all Australian children?
