For the right the next election is about renovation : Comments

By Graham Young, published 19/8/2026

One Nation and the Coalition aren't enemies, they are competitors, and competition is the best way to bring renewal.

It's just too complicated. I would dearly like to see the end of compulsory voting and particularly compulsory preferential voting.

Interesting analysis. But Taylor, like Albanese, seems obsessed with tearing down Hanson. Typical duopoly behaviour - only have eyes for each other.

Taylor should more be tearing down Albanese and his dreadful front bench. The most ideological and divisive government we've ever had, lecturing us from on high for DEI, fake cohesion, mass migration, and UN net zero. Voters who disagree with them are branded as Not Who We Are.

Yes Steve. I don't understand why the Coalition is unwilling to cooperate with One Nation to rid us of our number one enemy, the most Communistic and incompetent government we have ever had. It seems that the prediction that the major parties would gang up on One Nation is true.

It will be Liberals second to last and Labor last for me in our cranky preferential system.

ttbn,
As the situation is right now, I'd say this is the only way to vote at the next election. It is said that immigration numbers are being reduced but I wonder how true that is in actual fact. The illogical increase of non-contributing migrants is the problem, not migrants in general.
One Nation is at this stage talking about a 130,000 ceiling & as long as they're young working migrants & not old parents & relatives then that makes more sense than the present shamozzle.
ALP/LNP are clearly totally out of touch with reality however, the question is why ? What causes them to think the way they do ? Are they thinking at all ? Who is advising them ? Surely they can't all be that dazed , or can they ? Are they being threatened & scared ? The latest Visa mess regarding backpackers appears to reduce their numbers & throwing the farming community into turmoil. Neither major party appears to be blessed with any common sense or is it as I suspect a cunning manipulation to flood the country areas with the hordes of incompatibles by pretending to fill the farm worker shortage ? The actions of A?P/LNP are certainly fertile ground for conjecture !

I think you should face the truth.
We can live a comfortable life every day.
This is not by accident.
It is planned.
And somebody planned it.
The government we selected does just that.
I know that nothing is perfect.
And there will always be 'wrinkles' in the fabric of our society.
But overall, our society does work quite well.
And we should be an active part of it.
Which includes voting to select our representative government.
And aiming for cohesion rather than conflict.

Indyvidual,

The immigration ‘reduction’ is another lie. In the financial year to June ‘26, net permanent and long term overseas arrivals was 476,870 - higher than any other financial year on record.

The talk about future numbers is nonsense: One Nation says 130,000, and Liberals say it theirs would be based on how many houses were available.

What rot! Numbers should relate only to what is NEEDED by Australia.

Ipso Fatso,
We don't know what the use-by-date is though, do we ? We can have a good guess by looking at Europe & the US to see what to expect in the near future. At least Australia still has a chance to rectify the damage from the ALP/LNP Administrations over the past 50+ years. But action is required now & even though One Nation hasn't proven their managing skills yet, the other two have already proven their lack of them. The one 100% predictable problem will be the sabotage directed at One Nation at every turn, no matter how sensible a policy may be ! There's a very lucrative band wagon rolling & LNP/ALP will grease its brakes rather than help slow it down & stop it !

One Nation’s rise isn’t primarily a problem of how the right should distribute candidates. It is evidence that a substantial part of the electorate no longer believes the traditional Coalition represents it.

Until the article explains why that happened and what the Coalition would have to change to reverse it, its proposed solution—better candidates and cooperation between the Coalition and One Nation—is incomplete, and misses the broader issues especially chronic housing shortages, mass immigration and failing infrastructure keeping pase with expansion.

The march away from LNP should be considered permanent. That one makes sense!

"Yes Steve. I don't understand why the Coalition is unwilling to cooperate with One Nation to rid us of our number one enemy, the most Communistic and incompetent government we have ever had. It seems that the prediction that the major parties would gang up on One Nation is true."

Because when it comes down to losing votes they stand to lose more of the conservative vote to One Nation than they will lose to progressives, and if they can't do better than One Nation, they won't even be the opposition anymore.

Why? Its because they're circling the drain.
Watch them eat each other.

And seriously, I'd rather embrace transgenders, and support the voice
and open the floodgates to another million Muslims including another 1000 ISIS brides than ever give my vote to a party that pledges loyalty to Israel.

(But I'd rather not support those things)

I'm starting to think that everything in the West was always built around Israel. Conservatives have always been the religious Christian side of politics built around support for Israel and the left was built around something other than this position.

So you lot keep on voting for Israel.
And I'll keep on voting to destroy you.

Armchair Critic,
Two wrongs don't make a Right but three wrongs ? That's just plain idiocy, just ask any European who is living the nightmare you're suggesting !

Hi Indy,
Well, I haven't actually voted that way yet, I was just mouthing off.
Making sad, pointless and pathetic threats to do so, you know.
Just to draw some attention to this situation.

But seriously why do I have to choose between Albo and his numerous crap policies and the right who align with genocidal Israel monsters like Ben G'vir and then talk down to me because of their fake 'Christians-with-Zionist-spectacles' morals.

I compared our democracy to a shite sandwich a long time ago.
This 'democracy' that we celebrate is little more than an obligation to choose which half of the shite sandwich that I want to eat, or get fined.
And obviously, no one with any brains actually wants to eat that, or get fined.

Armchair critic,
I have long said that Democracy is the worst kind of dictatorship as it allows minority groups to override the majority.
Re the israel situation I can't really say anything with certainty as I only hear from the likes of you & the antisemites on the internet. I hope One Nation gets in & literally prohibits demonstrations in Australia for causes or rather senseless happenings in other countries. Any Australians wishing to help in the Middle east should go there & stop the all the demonstrating & brainwashing our young here ! Anyone bringing these problems here should return to there where they can fight for their cause instead of causing problems here ! The problem there is that that would be democratic & the factions wouldn't accept that !

I see OneNation fulfilling the role for the right that the Greens fulfill for the left - mop up the votes that the more moderate mainstream miss and then funnel them back via the preferential voting system.

In addition to making sure that most of the right-leaning votes end up with right or conservative-leaning candidates, OneNation is also likely to pick up a few (maybe quite a few) lower house seats and a significant number of upper house members.

In that case they will also fulfill the role on the right that the Greens fill on the left. They will constantly be trying to tug the right further right as the Greens tug the left further left, and, in comparison, make the majority right parties seem moderate and constrained.

Since the overthrow of Abbott I've been looking for the Liberals to become more Liberal and less Labor-lite. It seems that that isn't going to happen within the party which seems more wedded the internal politicking than representing the majority of their natural constituency. But the rise of OneNation and their likely electoral impact may well achieve the same outcomes with the Liberals being forced, against their inclination to become more like the party their natural constituency wants.

One Nation is the hope for for the working class, hence so much misinformation & intense opposition from the largely parasitic pseudo intellectual class.
