Non-stop housing talk is boring. It seems to be an Australia-only thing that everyone must own a house. When Australians had a much more decent life than they do now, there was an obsession with homeownership, while places like the UK and France were renters living in council housing. Now, we have plummeted to more normal living.

Interestingly, the countries with the highest home ownership are: Laos, Albania, Romania, and Kazakhstan, at around 95%.

Australia? About 65%. The UK is about the same, as is Europe and the US.

With Socialist governments like Australia has, there should be ample housing available for rent commensurate with the population they are continuing to increase in a slapdash way.

People who can afford to build a house can - if they can find a builder who has not gone broke because of government red tape and taxes, or turned to commercial projects where they can still make a profit. Data centres are already luring them away from domestic work.

Nothing innovative about this idea, it’s been around since redeveloped caravan parks became the chick.
Leased land on old van sites require weekly rent to the private owner, usually at a premium price, with no guarantees of rent stability.
There are no answers to the problem of homelessness here, these are future slum dwellings.

What could make theses exisiting slums more useful, would be freehold titles to each dwelling, at which point the owner has total control of his asset.
Best of luck getting that one through your local council.
