Binoy is writing yet another anti-Trump fact-free missive and AC is making yet more predictions that are destined to fail as badly has his earlier predictions about the Ukrainian war (which he's doing his best to pretend never happened).

Trump's biggest problem as regards the Iranian war is that he was too compassionate toward the Iranian people, trying to not so ruin their infrastructure as to leave them in poverty for a decade after the whole thing is over. Instead he hoped to show the mullahs that resistance was futile, get them to give up on their Islamic imperialist dreams and then have a chance to become a prosperous, peaceful nation.

But the mullahs aren't interested in any of that and are most certainly not concerned about the welfare or otherwise of those they lord over. So now the gloves are off and the US is starting to take out the infrastructure that is most important to the welfare of the nation - the bridges and the power plants. The mullahs are helpless to stop the US bombing whatever takes their fancy but hope that by just hiding in their bunkers they and their regime can survive while the people they are supposed to care about suffer for their intransigence.

And survival is all they currently care about. Its easy to notice that, while they fire the odd futile rocket at various other muslim countries, they have not lifted a finger against Israel since the MOU was signed. Why? Because they know that Israel, fully embedded in Iranian society, would repeat the earlier lessons by taking out the current IRGC leadership structures. So they hide from Trump and play nice with Israel.

The question becomes what will the US do once there's nothing left of any consequence to bomb? The current best guess is that they'll invite the allies who need the Strait to remain open to police it while they, the US, hangs around to smack heads if the mullahs dare to step out of line
