Modern democracies need less permanent campaigning and more permanent problem-solving.

So far, only two Teals want to be in the "party", which is a joke: two members, no leader, and a silly name.

Where it all goes wrong is the desire silly ( lazy) fools have, for someone else to take responsibility for their lives.

The evidence for the catastrophe that inevitably follows that frame of mind, is the state of the UK.

Less politicians, not more of the grubby band of thieves!

"a joke: two members, no leader, and a silly name." Sounds like One Nation!

Having a headless chook as leader, does that count?

A good start to fix our rotten political culture is to introduce Proportional Representation.
The ABC recent doco, Civic Duty, took us to Denmark, where something like 12 parties are in Parliament under a P R system and where the proceedings are done in a civilise manner, unlike the rough house we have here.
My Submission 146 to the Standing Committee on Elctoral Matters spells out the dysfunctions of our 2 Party-preferred system, and why P R would fix most of the boils on our body politic.
Regretably its Interim report makes no mention of my submission. It is no doubt not in the interest of the two mafia-doms to lose their traditional grip. The 2023 Report by the previous Committee spend the first 14 pages discussing PR. May be Peta Murphy's report on gambling had frightened our "timid" Labor government.

So, anyone can start a political party without the consent of citizens & taxpayers ?
If they fund themselves ok but getting propped up by our taxes is simply not on in my book.
As tax payers we had to pay for everything coming our way, even things we didn’t & don’t need. Spender & Steggal have made zero contribution to Australia, they have not demonstrated merit nor warrant to be supported in their quest to destabilise the fabric of this Nation’s society even more.

Hi Indy,

Wrong as usual; "So, anyone can start a political party without the consent of citizens & taxpayers?" No, firstly I believe there is a requirement for 1500 members, and then the registration of a party name has to be approved by the AEC. After that there a certain rule that have to be followed.

On this topic I think Zali Steggall and Allegra Spender are pulling the wrong rein by forming a new political party. Their Independence is one of their best selling points. Although changes brought in by the 'Big Two' which advantage them over others, particularly independents, makes it understandable why they would want to form a party.

Well Indy there is hope for YOU yet, just another 1499 names and your Loony Tunes Party will be up and running. With terrific policies of sack 95% of public servants, every kid between the age of 0 and 18 to do national service, kick the jungle bunnies out, build a prison in every suburb, employ more coppers to lock up the criminals, that's the lefties, kids, gays, women, academics, left handed people, anyone else on the list, raise the Aged Pension to a million dollars a week, ban the burka, ban lefties, ban the ABC, ban SBS, ban birthdays just for the heck of it! AND the party is only getting started, wait to YOU get fair-dinkum, then they'll know it!
