By David Singer, published 29/5/2026

Trump’s Middle East coalition may think it is negotiating peace. Tehran appears to think it is negotiating time.

If you take what the Iranians say seriously, then the U.S. is a long way from a deal.
And even if there was a deal America and Israel wouldn't abide by it anyway.

Even some of the most ardent Trump supporters now realise that the idiot Donald is totally out of his depth when it comes to "matters of state", "international diplomacy" etc. Trump thinks that these complex matters can be solved as easily as it is to do a "deal" for a golf course in Florida, or something as trivial as a block of apartments in Manhattan. The idiot thinks people like Putin, Xi and the Iranians are as simple minded as the suckers he's used to ripping off with some shonky deal he's cooked up.

"Leaders" like Donald, like so many before him attract two kinds of supports, the majority, low IQ knuckle dragging rednecks, very gung-ho types who will do whatever you want, and the far more dangerous intelligent, calculating, articulated manipulators who see the "leader" as a useful idiot to be used as a vehicle to meet their ends. Australia is in danger of going down the same path with a couple of fruits in the Lovely Pauline and Barnyard Joy up front, but having much more sinister manipulators pulling their strings from behind!

In a comfortable family, there is communication.
There is compromise, and occasional diplomacy.
These things allow a family to be calm and constructive.
They allow the building of harmonious relationships.
The members of such a family live well.

In an unsettled family, thought comes from one source.
There is no back and forth communication.
There is unwilling compliance with restrictive rules.
The family as a whole is stressed, and not a pleasant place for its members to be.
The latter type of family reminds me of Mr Trump's regime.

It seems to me that a disfunctional family cannot be expected to excel at negotiation.
So Mr Trump's negotiation with Iran is not likely to succeed.
We really should be able to see what the outcome will be.
But Iran is controlled by zealots, and is beyond reason right now.
So don't expect a sensible result or outcome any time soon.

The utter misunderstandings of the actual situation on the ground in Iran is astounding. But it all results from the self-serving thinking that anything Trump (and the US) does is obviously wrong.

The actual situation is that Iran has been utterly defeated militarily with its navy and airforce totally destroyed and its air defences obliterated. Just last week the US was able to bomb selected sites in western Iran without the slightest push back from a country that no longer has the ability to push back.

Meanwhile the blockade of Iran continues unchallenged and unchallengeable as the noose continues to tighten. Iran's oil fields now largely lay idle and, while they can still get some supplies in via the Caspian Sea and overland from China, its a trickle compared to pre-war trade and what the country needs long-term. Additionally, individual regime kleptocrats are now seeing their massive overseas holdings seized and their hopes of a life of luxury on the French Riviera after they flee Iran, dashed.

Like the Iranian regime itself, some here think that because the US hasn't finished the job via warfare. it means they are weak or incapable. But the truth is very different. The US still holds out hope that the regime can be unrooted by the Iranian people and the last thing they want to do is send it back to the stone age and thus cripple a potential new government. Equally, Trump doesn't want to cause unnecessary Iranian civilian causalities if they can be avoided.

So he sits tight, holding all the aces and waiting for the regime to implode or finally come to its senses. Irrespective of the propaganda that the regime puts out about how they are demanding this and demanding that, they are getting nothing from Trump.

Those who can't see the nose of their face don't get this and there's little point debating it with those who just think everything Trump does is dumb.

But rest assured once this is resolved I'll be coming back to ask each poster how they reconcile their current assertions with the final outcome.

Hi Trumpster,

What a crock of sh!t is your last post. If as YOU claim; "(Iran's) navy and air force totally destroyed and its air defences obliterated." Why then is the Strait of Hormuz closed by the Iranians to unfriendly merchant shipping/ Could it be that Iran still has substantial ballistic missile and attack drone capability.

Daffy Donald said the war would be over in a couple of weeks, its now into its third month. None of the so called American/Zionist objectives have been met.

1. Eliminating Iran's Nuclear Capabilities FAILED
2. Destroying Iran's Military Infrastructure FAILED
3. Regime Change in Iran FAILED
4. Severing Iranian Ties With Proxies In The Region FAILED

Great report card. What objectives have been met?
