Khaled Abu Toameh is an Israeli Arab journalist working for the Jerusalem Post. He is a Muslim; and he points out another mistake made by the West: Islamic fanatics in Iran regard every U.S offer of a ceasefire and negotiation as a “victory”. The U.S is weak. As long as there are survivors, the fanatics want to engage in holy war. It's an obligation. Cease fires and negotiations just give them time to recoup, and continue the jihad, against its people, its neighbours and the West. Everything the U.S demands that they do is intolerable to the fanatics.

The only way to achieve change in the Middle East is by totally destroying the Republic of Iran, Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Ceasefires are seen as official victories by these people.

A piece of paper signed with infidels is a Western fantasy.

The Iranian media has reported ceasefires as victories. Its Supreme National Security Council has stated: “During this period, it is essential to maintain national unity and to continue victory celebrations with strength.”

All ceasefires will be exploited; the Western view that they will bring peace is confounded by the fanatics’ view that ceasefires validate jihad, which will continue as long as the West allows itself to be exploited.

Palestinian political analyst, Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib, has warned the West that they are just ‘kicking the can down the road’, the assumption they will achieve a win over Iran and their proxies is false. Every pause in fighting only “strengthens their (the Iranians’) belief that they are winning”.

The West needs to understand just what ‘jihad’ actually is, and the “uncompromising determination behind it”. Every negotiation, threat and ceasefire will only “lead to more terrorism and the next war”.

Dave used to be heavy on "Drinking the Kool-Aid" when it came to the Middle East, but now I think he's punch drunk on "Trump-Aid" My suggestion is for 'Chicken Out' Donald, accompanied by Dave be parachuted into the middle of Tehran with Donald clutching his "Instrument Of Surrender" in his right hand, jerking furiously as he screams at the menacing throng; "Take Me To Your Leader!" whilst the angry crowd rips his balls off! Dave can be carrying Donald's black silky pyjamas in his overnight bag, they may be staying a while.

"The stunning military advances made by the US and Israel during the last 7 weeks"

What stunning military advances are you referring to?
- I'm unaware of any.

Hi AC,

Little Johnny Howard with Aussie natural gas was like the Persians of 1901 with oil. The British supported Persian (Iran today) monarch Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar singed a contract with Britain's William Knox D'Arcy which gave the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (BP today) a 60 year oil concession for $40,000, Anglo-Persian Oil paid less than 1 cent a barrel in royalties, a cent more than Big Gas pays Australia. However in 1933 Standard Oil of California took over the lucrative oil concession. During WW2 Britain took full control of Iran, keeping the illegitimate Iranian monarchy as controlled puppet rulers, despite a coup in 1953, the Shah remained as monarch until 1979, when the Iranian Islamic Revolution took place, and ousted the last Shah Mohammad Reza .

Little Johnny Howard is pro monarchy, maybe we should make him Shah Of Australia, he'd look good with a tea towel on his head, under the control of American Big Gas! Looking at Western exploitation of Iran over the last 125 years, and its easy to see why they don't like us.

Trump was bullied, blackmailed or misled by Netanyahu and the Israel lobby in the US into thinking that with a quick unprovoked attack on Iran which included killing leaders that Iranian people would rise up, overthrow their government and replace it with one more friendly to the US and Israel. Ignoring the fact that a leading priority of Iranians since they deposed the US puppet the Shah in 1979 has been to stop Yanks worming their way back into control. Iranians IN IRAN have obviously rallied behind their government against foreign intervention. Have also since 1979 been studying military capabilities of potential invaders and developing ways of countering them. Particularly with large numbers of relatively cheap drones plus lots of missiles. Including some hypersonic ones - which US and Israel do not yet have which seem presently impossible to intercept. To date these have done enormous damage to US and Israeli military facilities in the area. Also it seems Iranians have far more resources in reserve to continue attacks than the limited supplies of interceptors, etc their enemies have to counter them. Trump is now obviously trying to arrange a somewhat honourable exit from a war he has no hope of winning. Should have realised this from US experience in Afghanistan. Recognised they could not suppress the Taliban after 20 years of trying. Iran is a much larger country and obviously its military has been receiving considerable help regarding intelligence especially from Russians and Chinese.
