So all he can do is bomb or blockade, neither of which will achieve anything in a hurry.

Meanwhile, Trumps got global economic issues constraining him with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf allies calling him constantly who are rethinking their relationship with the U.S. and the longer the economic problems persist the worse they'll get, and if Trump can't find an off-ramp that allows him to save face, he's going to lose the House in the midterms, and may also lose the Senate as well, if these things happen Trump will spend the last 2 years up on impeachment charges.

There's no way out for Trump, Iran holds the Strait of Hormuz card.

As with much Trump says, his dedicated opponents look to deliberately mispresent his words and then assert that the misrepresentation is somehow fact. And then all the gullible TDS followers fall into line.

When Trump was talking about the end of a civilisation, he was referring to the end of the Islamist society that Iran has become. Thinking that he was talking about nuking the place is just bonkers. But then much of what the TDS crowd says is bonkers.

Trump is sitting pretty as regards the war. The power factions within Iran are now at each other's throats to the point where they can't even arrive at a consensus response to the challenge that the war presents the regime. Hence their refusal to negotiate and their on again off again threats about Hormuz.

Trump won't send US soldiers into Iran proper since that would result in some American deaths and he wants to avoid unnecessary causalities. But if things drag on then occupying some of the islands of the coast of Iran proper is likely.

In the meantime, the blockade against Iran is slowly strangling their economy and in the end, when the IRGC's foot soldiers can no longer be paid, then its all over for the leadership.
