Most governments in the western democracies are facing a dilemma – how to rein in spending without losing voter support.

Bribery is the modus operandi for the uniparty. Of course they aren't going to curb their spending. A libertarian government “like in Argentina” will never be elected here by greedy voters who have become used to government handouts.

I wouldn't give Argentina up as a shining example of a free democracy, these so called libertarians, are often no more than right wing extremists trying to infiltrate democracy with a grab bag of feel good promises, the Libertarian Party is such a mob in Australia,

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has warned of an "immense threat" to press freedom, with Argentina falling 47 places in their 2025 World Press Freedom Index, following a rise in hostile rhetoric, the dismantling of public media, and attempts to limit access to information by the Libertarian Party.

Perhaps Australia's have to get down to the level that Argentinians were at until they had the nous to do what those Argentinians did: elect a libertarian. Things were much worse there, and there's still a long way to go. But, they have had government spending slashed by 30%.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Australian voters and Australian politicians deserve each other; both groups are self-interested, self-serving types with little concern for their country and society.

Fuelled by government austerity, Argentina's poverty level stands at 38% of the population living below the poverty line. Argentina has been forced to make billion dollar debt repayments to both US and international financiers.

All the other “old farts” have disappeared from the site, and it's time for me to go as well.

Paul 1405.

I was referring to the general section, to avoid stalkers and creeps like you. But here you are, still stalking and creeping and lowering the standard of the main area where people who can actually write in a professional manner, have qualifications, and supple articles, generally do not take any notice of ratbags like you.

Every now and again, a knobhead will address the contributor directly, never getting a response. I doubt that the contributors read what halfwits like you, or even sensible posters come up with. This particular contributor has certainly never shown any interest in what other people think of him and his opinions. Get back in your kennel.

In Argentina:

Real private wages were falling sharply before Milei, but are now roughly 10 per cent higher and growing.
GDP growth has gone from -2 per cent up to +4 per cent per year.
Poverty has dropped from 42 per cent down to 32 per cent, and absolute poverty has fallen from 12 per cent to under 7 per cent.
Rental supply has increased by 300 per cent and real rental prices have dropped by 50 per cent.
Exports have increased from $67 billion to $80 billion per year.
Private investment has increased from $122 billion to $131 billion per year.
The budget balance has gone from $30 billion deficit into a small surplus.
The country risk premium has dropped from 20 per cent down to 5 per cent, pushing real interest rates down by 15 per cent.
The results have proven politically popular, with Milei’s party achieving a landslide victory in the 2025 mid-term elections.
