I wish commentators would stop evoking past politicians who are old or long dead. There's was a different time, simpler and easier managed. There is no knowing how they would have performed in the 21st. Century.

Even the recent hasbeens like Abbott, Turnbull, Howard, Keating etc are as boring as batshit: and they were not all that smart when they were in power. But Menzies is a fossil, and I actually remember him, and believe that he wouldn't be “turning in his grave”, nor doing anything much differently than the dills of today are doing.

If I remember correctly, the liberal party has rarely been able to govern in its own right.
So it almost always needs to be in a coalition arrangement.
To have any chance of being a stable government, it must somehow reignite its association with the nationals.
If this means a change of both leaderships, so be it.
And the libs must make themselves better known to the public.
Make the public understand why they would be a better government.
But doing that might be difficult?

And I too wonder at the attention paid to past leaders.
We can learn from what they did, but to keep them front and centre all the time is a bit over the top.
Paul Keating in particular, is showing his age, to his disadvantage I should add.
Our attention should be focussed on two things.
The ever absorbing present, and making plans for the future.
