Anticipating the biggest event in the sphere of multilateral diplomacy : Comments

By omitting multilateralism and offering only a token nod to solidarity, the UN’s flagship report weakens its own narrative at a time of unprecedented global interdependence.

Dr. Voicu shared a timely and insightful reflection on the recently released Report on the Work of the Organization, a key document shaping the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly – likely the most significant diplomatic event of 2025. By highlighting the UN’s efforts across critical areas such as peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, and international law, the article underscores the global stakes at hand, especially as it becomes increasingly clear that we are falling short of achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The article also underscores the role of the International Court of Justice in major legal disputes, demonstrating the UN’s continued relevance in upholding international accountability. At the same time, the article rightly critiques the absence of core principles like "multilateralism" and "solidarity" from the report, both concepts undisputably vital to addressing today’s interconnected crises. I am grateful for the valuable insights the author has shared in this thoughtful analysis.
