Another good piece from Prof Schwartz.
I wonder, though, how many of his fellow professors would be capable of teaching wisdom even if they wanted to. Many (not all) academics seem to me increasingly focused on their own areas of expertise, with little attention to how that might fit into the bigger picture, or contribute to the greater good of society. And large parts of the dominant ideology in academia nowadays are actively hostile to promoting and exploring the values and history of Western culture. Universities either do not offer studies in Western culture, or offer programs that are overwhelmingly critical of it. A few years ago, a proposal for the University of Sydney to accept funding for a course from the Ramsay Centre collapsed after academics protested that it was "European supremacism writ large”. In any academic endeavour there should be room for critical examination and diverse opinions. But there seems to be one dominant perspective nowadays in many history courses that cannot be challenged Posted by Rhian, Wednesday, 25 June 2025 4:22:17 PM
