Denial, ignorance and ideology lie behind dangerous thinking on fire management.

Apart from healthy forests there are other factors to consider. These include biodiversity (cute critters), net CO2 balance, respiratory distress, local employment and damage from escaped fires. Since Trump believes in forest thinning apparently future federal funding of fire control authorities will require that practice.

It seems in practice we are heading towards tracking of known arsonists and aerial water bombing, not so much prescribed burns. Have all the prescribed burns you want just not near me.

Huge swaths of otherwise useless land, are handed over to Aboriginal Land claims.
Let them deal with it, (joke).

Here. Is the enemy.

One needs to read this crap with a mind of pure scepticism, along with help from the ghost of George Orwell .

Another good article, Mark, but in south west WA at least most Aboriginal burning was done in summer, not in autumn or spring. There are many records from the early explorers and settlers of summer being the preferred time. Interestingly, there is also evidence to show that summer burning was carried out under moderate wind conditions as this would allow the flames to be blown along the ground and not so much up trees to start crown fires.
