Green aluminium? Tell Albo he’s dreaming : Comments

By John Mikkelsen, published 23/1/2025

There’s no limit to what the Labor Government will do in an attempt to achieve the unachievable.

It is well known that aluminium smelting needs reliable power 24/7 because of the electric arc furnace technology involved. Without continuous power, the furnace will cool and the aluminium mix will become a solid mess, which has to be pickhammered out, or the furnace scrapped. Renewables can’t deliver reliable power 24/7. That’s it…it’s not workable. The ‘Green Production Credit’ is just a disguised workaround to allow use of FF power (coal or gas) when renewables are not available. Another propaganda exercise of the ‘smoke and mirrors’ type!

Can't see the article but the credits sound like a greenwash. Batteries, wind and solar can't run a smelter for very long so 'running on renewables' must be a percentage thing. Outside of Russia nuclear power would be more expensive than what smelters can pay so perhaps the credit is a disguised subsidy.

Woke Marxist's destroy with one side of their mouth, and say that "we have to help the poor" with the other.

But Woke Marxist's destroy production, that causes scarcity, that causes poor people to starve, and then complaint about the evil capitalist's. Sadly the poor don't see the steps to their misery, but they like the fact that someone is saying that should be helped.

The poor should be helping production, so that this traps producers into lower prices. If the poor then stock up their cupboards they will be able to protect themselves against price fluctuations.

Marxist's envy Capitalist's but they don't like to get their hands dirty. If they create scarcity then the people will need them, and they can manipulate them.

The Marxist's remind me of the ancient Pharisees.

The Labor government can't stop natural fuels such as coal and oil without a viable replacement. The options for Aluminium seem to be traditional power stations or nuclear power, because they are their own storage, whereas "unreliables" are not, and require an expensive battery system to make them reliable.

Marxist's have many programs to create scarcity.

It's good that Trump is closing these programs, hopefully this will lead to a flow on effect.
