The author is in Taiwan. If she doesn't know the answer to her question, why would we? Australia is too gutless and frightened of Communist China to even recognise Taiwan. They don't want to discuss the country, even though it is a democratic one, more under threat from the Communist dictatorship than Australia is.

And the Australian government is completely idiotic when it comes to nuclear power.

This should be of more interest to Taiwan:

"The U.S is preparing for a conflict over Taiwan to begin roughly 1,000 days from now" (June 2024).

Firstly, I agree with you completely in regards to your concerns about Taiwan's energy and I think Tungs plan is a great idea.

But I disagree with all you other assumption in regards to conflict with China.

You wont have to worry about waiting 45 days for US and allied fleets to arrive.
For one, it'll be all over in 2 weeks, and for two - I wouldn't even bank on any help arriving at all.
If China launches a surprise attack, they will have submarines in place to shadow those fleets and take them out in port or en-route.
There's no point counting on the LNG shipments either because Taiwans 2 LNG receiving terminals will be destroyed along with all of your other energy infrastucture, except the nuclear power plants.
- Including submarines which will launch attacks on the US bases in the Philipines, Japan and South Korea
China will launch hypersonic and cruise missiles at everything else floating / not floating, and probably have military cells in place in Taiwan to move on military bases and the government.

What you see happening in Ukraine will not be the same for you.
It wont be a long protracted war which has actually benefited Russia and China.
North Korea, who has a military pact with China will probably launch missiles on Japan, and send 1.2 million Leninist-Marxist-Confusionist warriors across the 38th parallel, and the 30,000 US soldiers stationed there won't stand a chance.
Russia's economy is revived, the Ukrainian army is on the verge of collapse, Europe is fractured and decoupled from Russian energy, the source of their prosperity, NATO is in the process of being completely demilitarised, and you won't just face China.
Probably China and North Korea and a good chance of Russia as well.
The sun is setting on the US empire.
It's going to be a graveyard of ships, but at that point when the US loses it's carriers does it launch it's nuclear weapons?

Alternatively....
The US making chips in America won't save their industry when everything still relies on Chinese supply chains.
They'll have a 'Made in USA chip' with no iphones to put them in.
Taiwan relies heavily on China, all China really have to do is stop exporting to everyone for a month.

Finally, I want you to know something.
When the US is helping to support you to be independent
The truth is, you'll never really be independent.
You are just a vassal state of the US, you're foreign policy will be what U.S dictates.

Also if there was some reason that made sense why your President won't support nuclear expansion, it's probably because Washington doesn't want this, think about it.

Anyway, I support your nuclear and energy concerns, but I think your being a little naive regards everything else.
Please try not to do anything silly and get your whole entire Island destroyed.
America does not care about you.
They want your chips and other industry and they want to hurt China.
America does not care about you, they care about them.
They will send you all to die fighting China just like the Ukrainians.
Don't get caught in the middle, you have no chance of winning.

Taiwan to acquire more than 1,000 armed drones in new US arms sale
http://edition.cnn.com/2024/06/19/asia/taiwan-us-drones-sale-intl-hnk-ml/index.html

>>The United States has approved the $360 million sale of more than 1,000 small armed drones to Taiwan, as the self-ruled island claimed by China aims to strengthen its asymmetrical warfare abilities with an eye on successful tactics used on the battlefield in Ukraine.
Taiwan will receive 720 Switchblade missiles and accompanying fire control systems worth $60.2 million, according to a release from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on Tuesday.<<

>>Manufacturer AeroVironment says it has performed well in Ukraine’s defense of Russia’s ongoing invasion.
“We have been gratified by overwhelming user feedback and demand for additional systems,” company CEO Wahid Nawabi said in an April post on AeroVironment’s website.
Meanwhile, the larger Altius 600M can carry “multiple seeker and warhead options” while being launched from land, air and sea platforms, manufacturer Anduril says on its website.
Both drones can also be used for reconnaissance.<<

How American Drones Failed to Turn the Tide in Ukraine
http://www.wsj.com/world/how-american-drones-failed-to-turn-the-tide-in-ukraine-b0ebbac3
'Drones from American startups have been deemed glitchy and expensive, prompting Ukraine to turn to alternatives from China'

>>The Silicon Valley company Skydio sent hundreds of its best drones to Ukraine to help fight the Russians. Things didn’t go well.
Skydio’s drones flew off course and were lost, victims of Russia’s electronic warfare. The company has since gone back to the drawing board to build a new fleet.<<

- Even Russia's Lancets and Geran-2 are cheaper and more efficient.
The drones Taiwan's purchased won't make any difference.
The US weapons industry is profit-driven not product-driven.

You can assume Russia will share it's drone knowledge learned in Ukraine with China who can out-manufacture the West.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidhambling/2023/12/05/russian-volunteer-group-making-a-thousand-fpv-kamikaze-drones-each-day/

>>Some Ukrainian sources previously claimed that Russia is now making 40,000 FPVs per month, but the basis for this was not clear. If Sudoplatov really are making 30,000 FPVs a month as the video suggests, then overall Russian production may be even higher.<<

How much do you think China can manufacture? Both?
You're at an impossible disadvantage.
These US drones won't last a day.
