The carbon capture con : Comments

By Viv Forbes, published 14/5/2024

Underground disposal of CO2 requires it to be pumped AGAINST the pressure of whatever fills the pore space of the rock formation. These pressures can be substantial.

I think the proposal is a feeble gesture intended for greenwashing or subsidy seeking. In physical terms I expect the effects to be minor, that is it will make bugger all difference to either atmospheric CO2 or artesian water supply. CCS is a world wide dud so those pushing it must think we're gullible. Gorgon for example is supposed to remove 80% of the CO2 mixed in raw gas but they now aim for 30% with the safeguards mechanism baseline adjusted. The proposed Barossa gas field off NT has an even higher CO2 content perhaps they want to be let off the hook as well.

Some say Milmerran would be a good site for an SMR. We'd be spared the daft site of trucks of liquid CO2 scurrying back and forth. A definition of CCUS I've seen is carbon capture use and storage. That allows for some industrial CO2 to be input to new products like synthetic fuel. It still adds to the atmospheric burden is the carbon is from fossil fuel even indirectly like burning plastic.

Get over CO2.Leave it alone.

CO2 is at its lowest level ever, at 0.04% of the atmosphere. If it gets down to 0.02%, all plant life will die. As Ian Plimer says, we need to use fossil fuels to help preserve it.

“There is no evidence that increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere drives global warming. Only evidence to the contrary. There has been a decrease in atmospheric carbon dioxide from 0.7 per cent during the Cambrian explosion of life 520 million years ago to the present level of 0.04 per…”.

Another incisive article by Viv Forbes. Coal is carbon dioxide plus millions of years of solidified solar power collected through Nature's solar panels and the miracle of photosynthesis and stored in vast natural batteries called fossil fuels, of an energy density far higher than anything man-made. Unlike manmade solar panels, these are biodegradable. Plants need the CO2, we need the power. It is a win-win to extract the power and recycle the CO2 back to feed more plants. Capturing and storing CO2 is futile, expensive, wasteful and counter-productive. Unequivocal evidence shows atmospheric CO2 does not drive the climate, rather the reverse is true. Take manmade recycling of CO2 out of the equation and the whole fraudulent Net-Zero edifice collapses.

The idea is to capture virtue, not carbon. For that purpose, "carbon capture" is great.

Viv Forbes the Climate denial shill.

Background

Viv Forbes is the chairman of the Carbon Sense Coalition, which was created to “defend the role of carbon on earth and in the atmosphere,” and which describes Forbes as a “pasture manager, soil scientist and geologist from Rosevale in Queensland.”2

Forbes has also had a long association with the coal industry. According to his archived biography at Stanmore Coal where he acts as director, Forbes has over 40 years of coal industry experience and has worked with Burton Coal, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, South Blackwater Coal Mine, Tahmoor Coal Mine, Newlands/Collinsville Coal Mines, MIM, Utah Goonyella/Saraji, Gold Fields, Austral Coal, and others.3 Forbes was also appointed general manager of Rocklands Richfield coal company in 2006.
