The issue of domestic violence dominated headlines this past week, but is there more to the story?

The only good and trustworthy Palestinian is a dead one!

Israel has long ago worked that simple truth out for itself; the hard way.

Maybe you should climb out of your lounge chair , fly over to Israel and find out for yourself with real life experience.

Give it a go Hopalong!

Domestic violence has morphed into a parallel industry to the guilt industry.
The root cause being those who bleat victim, the real victims don't get listened to.
Govt economic mismanaging & discriminative social laws & lately, the insidious PC are causing the stresses that inevitably cause domestic arguments & eventually physical violence. Incompetent bureaucrats meddling in affairs they have no clue in nor any moral right to interfere.

>The claim that domestic violence is all about toxic masculinity and misogyny is wrong, and taking that idea seriously stops us from confronting the real reasons for domestic violence

---

I can only agree, the real reason ? neo liberal voters ensuring the destruction of the nation with the cruel picks over decades. Literally been in power for decades and and decades and this is the result of their towel of babel,.

Everything we do is wrong, we don't build homes to house people, we don't grow food to feed people, we build roads they are full of toxic polluting vehicles, then impoverish people to be able to get about, Economic policy is based on making the entitled better off by persecuting those doing this , policies based on cruelty. When you are cruel, those impacted push back will often, in the only way they know how.

Yes, but how do you seperate your argument for a motivational cause of Domestic violence without extending the same argument to incorporate all other forms of violence in society per-se under the same banner.
Seems to me your argument could be simplified by proposing Capitalism the root cause.

I’m not convinced!

We are appalled by the way that Taliban treat Women and Girls in Afghanistan. In our own back yard before the 'White Man" arrived, a similar situation applied and sad to say, particularly in the NT, in many areas a similar philosophy still applies. Likewise, the idea of headship is prevalent in some of our Christian communities.

Unless we can change these attitudes we have no hope of lowering the abuse of our women.

Dear Graham,

.

Dominant males in many animal species treat their females and offspring as property and behavioural patterns of large portions of human society are not much more evolved if at all. It was not until the late 19th century and the early 20th century that democratic countries phased out their so-called covert marriage laws or the equivalent so that wives and their children were no longer considered as chattel (property) and were granted the legal statute of persons with attendant rights.

In underdeveloped countries, women remain submitted to the authority of men, passing from father to husband and, ultimately, to son. Whereas in developed countries, the two World Wars were catalysts for women's emancipation (somebody had to do the job while the men were at war). But even that has not prevented gender discrimination to continue to be endemic worldwide. Full emancipation only concerns a privileged minority of women. The majority live in underdeveloped countries and, apart from a few notable exceptions, they largely remain subjugated.

In addition, women have always been and, to a large extent, still are the victims of male violence. Beating wives and children has long been tolerated by society.

Judging from the results of various studies that have been carried out on the causes of family violence it seems that the predominately male aggressors are not a homogenous group. They are diverse and varied. What they obviously do have in common is that they knowingly and willingly commit their ignoble, bestial acts that are constantly repeated over long periods often lasting several years and are therefore entirely responsible for them.

Domestic violence is a common feature of all countries and all cultures, even the most advanced. Thousands of women die each year, around the world, as a result of blows received from their husbands or domestic partners in an atmosphere of general indifference. In 1999, the United Nations declared 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in an effort to provoke public awareness of the problem.
