Imperial fruit: bananas, costs and climate change : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 3/4/2024

Corporation power and secondary colonisation, exercised through such ruthless entities as the United Fruit Company (now the jauntily labelled Chiquita), continued the legacy, collaborating with corrupt elites.

Much ado about very little. If growers want out from under corporate control, they need to create banana co-ops.

It's the few that won't join that create these sorts of corporate takeovers/market control.

Up to me. I'd chop all the banana trees down and find another crop to grow. Or allow the cavindish to be sold to home growers and banana growing flea market operators.

That would F the corporate Mr Bigs of the banana market and wrest control from them. And return the profits to those who earn them by the sweat of their brow.
