.
The UK has an extradition treaty with the USA and in the first paragraph of article 4 of that treaty, it states : “Extradition shall not be granted if the offence for which extradition is requested is a political offence.” I understand that what constitutes a "political offence" is not defined in extradition treaties. It depends on the motivation and the context. Wikileaks is a not-for-profit organisation. Julian Assange was not motivated by personal gain. He did not commit a crime. He revealed war crimes allegedly perpetrated by the US in Iraq and Afghanistan. If that is an offence, it is a political offence. The death penalty is applicable at the federal level in the US and represents another reason why Assange should not be extradited. And, as a final remark, allow me to add that if it is proven by an international court that the US did commit war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no reason why Julian Assange should be extradited by the UK to the US to be tried and punished for revealing those war crimes. That would hardly qualify as justice. . Posted by Banjo Paterson, Wednesday, 13 March 2024 3:46:05 AM

Well once Albo engineers Assange's freedom, what's the betting Assange won't spend much time in Australia but return
to Albo's acute embarrassment to Assange re-energising anti-Western Wikileaks - complete with oddballs leaking only Western Secrets: not Russia's, not China's. Posted by Maverick, Thursday, 14 March 2024 3:30:21 PM

Albanese's efforts to free Assange - followed by Assange revitalising dormant Wikileaks [1] may well be seen as Albanese's biggest failure since the Voice.
[1] The latest Wikileaks News item was published way back on 31 October 2021 and the items are mostly about Assange. See Wikileaks' actual website http://wikileaks.org/-News-.html Posted by Maverick, Thursday, 14 March 2024 5:58:59 PM

From Pekka K's Vatnik Soup includes Assange but this on Trump Campaign's Roger Stone
https://vatniksoup.com/en/soups/170/ 'Roger Stone, a former advisor to Trump, had backchannel talks with Julian Assange of Wikileaks, and with Guccifer 2.0, the hacker persona believed to be behind the DNC hacks. Here's my soup on Stone: https://twitter.com/P_Kallioniemi/status/1650797702064529409 Posted by Andras Smith, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 1:18:14 AM

And to be labelled as horse feathers and bird's fur.
There is no real groundswell to free bail jumping, criminal Assange.
For you and I it's, do the crime do the time. And ditto for a former US President! Nobody is above the law.
Moreover, we need to keep our US ally on board with our defence strategy. Freeing The criminal Assange, tournament to poking a wasp's nest with a stick. Extremely ill advised.
Let this accused rapist and criminal bail jumper have his day in court. Along with Mr Trump.
